American Goldfinch (f); Flower Farm Series 7
Goldfinches are among the most vegetarian of songbirds, thriving on just seeds from infancy onward (no insect protein needed). Sunflower seeds (a couple are dropping below her!) and thistle seeds are oily, great nutrition.
This is another photo taken at a small private refuge of gorgeous flowers, lots of honeybees, butterflies, hummingbirds, finches and an occasional bunny.

I normally only have two meals a day, as I am doing partial fasting, so every day is brunch in the morning. For today I put out a litlle more "brunchy food: a french style omelette with diced green chile, toast with homemade bread, breakfast sausage, homesmoked cheeses, and waffles. The omelette isn't great looking, I don't have much practice at that, but came out better than expected...
Taken for 118 pictures in 2018, #106 "let's do brunch/lunch". These are potato pancakes (or latkes), and cold smoked (salt cured) salmon. I am not a frequent bruncher, but other than omelettes, these should be common offerings for a brunch. And if they aren't common, well, I ate them for lunch.

This delicate meadow goes through major changes over a year. It's under snow right now and soon it will be under 20 feet of snow. As it melts tarns form and then they dry in the summer sun, that's when the flowers bloom and the land becomes alive once more.
This Korean couple chose a great spot for a snack, couldn't pass up the op. :-)
I have one more day in Everette and then our son comes to visit from NY, so I'll probably be spotty again this week. I hope that all of you get to spend time with loved ones and that the joy that is the season for family finds you. See you up the trail!

I took advantage of the glorious Winter sunshine this morning to make a quick visit to Sneydes Rd. Glad I did as there was a lot of birds about.
Not sure what it was that this White-faced Heron plucked from the grass for a snack. It was so intent on hunting that it allowed me to get quite close.
Back after picking up the kids from school to catch up.

Actually the guidelines have recently been updated for our county for restaurants to allow for 25% indoor seating capacity. That's an improvement, but we are still not living the way we really want to.
The smoke is from the Creek Fire northeast of Fresno. There was a lot of ash on my car this morning.
It was 109° today and that is cool compared to Woodland Hills in Southern California where it was 121°!
We have a few more days of this heat wave, let's hope no more fires start and that they can make good progress on all the fires burning in California right now.
