Christmas Eve is such an exciting time! India and Brubba always open a couple of gifts from Nanny Hazel, including a new outfit for them to wear on Christmas day. Other Christmas Eve traditions include tracking Santa as he delivers gifts to our family in London and leaving cookies and milk out for Father Christmas. On Christmas morning they open their stockings in bed, small novelty gifts that keep them occupied for a moment while Mama and Daddy get ready and drink some much needed coffee! We spent Mama's birthday on the North Beach at Fort DeSoto Park. India Rose and Brubba love to collect interesting shells and this is the perfect beach for shelling! India Rose and her big brother play at the East Beach playground, Fort DeSoto Park. As a baby, India was never much of a climber but now she wants to do everything her "Brubba" does. This play area overlooks Tampa Bay and the Skyway Bridge. The kids loved seeing the big ships passing while they had fun on the slides. I love the way that Brubba keeps his baby sister safe as he helps her explore the "big kid" stuff! These two are too cute together. Today is the birthday of A. A. Milne, author of Winnie The Pooh. India loves to read about Pooh Bear's adventures! We celebrated Winnie The Pooh Day early, with a game of Pooh sticks. To play the game, you must each stand on one side of a bridge and throw your sticks in, then run to the other side. The stick that flows out the other side first is the winner. We went to a little park with a bridge, unfortunately the water was still and not flowing at all, so we had to make our way another bridge. It was a little chilly but we enjoyed a beautiful sunset and the kids had fun playing their new game. I hope all our British friends enjoyed their Mother's Day weekend! The Big Bend power station, in Tampa might seem like a strange place to celebrate British mother's day, but we had a great time. During the winter, the warm water surrounding the power station provides critical protection from the cold for hundreds of manatees. Unfortunately, we arrived too late in the year to see the sea cows, but there was still plenty to do at this Florida attraction. A touch tank, under the boardwalks, is home to the official mascots of Tampa Bay Rays baseball team. Once baseball season starts, the stingrays head back to their Major League Baseball stadium. India loves the stingrays, she had so much fun and even made a friend! We also enjoyed the butterfly garden and all it's beautiful flowers. A tidal walkway gave us better view of the power station, we will definitely be back to see the manatees next winter. We finished the day with smoothies on Clearwater Beach. I love our family adventures and I am so grateful to be India and Brubba's mama! Aunt Toni's last day in Florida! We spent the day with her at her hotel, India swam in a pool for the first time and she loved it! Our toddler swims in the sea a lot but has never been able to swim anywhere that didn't have waves! She took her inflatable boat and her life jacket. Such a great day, enjoying the sunshine with family. We wish it didn't have to end, but Aunt Toni had to go home to Arizona, India hates to say goodbye and will miss her so much. When I was a kid, we made these paper fortune tellers. I made one for India Rose, but instead of fortunes on the inside, I drew pictures of animals. Brubba played the game with her, counting and spelling out the colors, India then did her best impressions of the animals she picked. Our family visited Fort DeSoto Park. Abandoned in 1923 much of the Fort is now ruins. India and Brubba had fun exploring the bunkers and climbing on the artillery and mortars.There is a small museum where you learn the history of Mullet Key, a fishing pier, and a gift shop.The beach below the Fort is beautiful, the view from the top was stunning and we had gorgeous sunshine. It was a beautiful morning, the sun was shining, so India Rose and Mama took a walk to their favorite coffee shop. They stopped along the way to look at the pretty flowers. Aunt Toni bought India a subscription to a wildlife magazine, so she could learn about some of her favorite animals... The first edition was about owls! India loves owls! So we spent the day at McGough Nature park, meeting their birds of prey and learning about these beautiful creatures from the volunteers. All the animals at the nature center were injured or sick, rescued from the wild and rehabilitated at the park. Our toddler was lucky enough to see some of these feathered friends up close, watch the kestrels being fed, see the clever camouflage of the owls and meet Sarge, The Bald Eagle! Then we took a walk through the park, where Brubba read India's owl magazine with her and they both learned some awesome facts about these beautiful birds! So grateful to our wonderful Aunt Toni for sending these magazines. This was such a fun way to teach our little one about wildlife, while interacting with animals. We had been running errands all day, we stopped at this little park on our way home, to stretch our legs and enjoy some sunshine. The trees at this tiny neighborhood park were perfect for a teenage boy to climb, India wants to do everything her big brother does, so naturally she wanted to climb trees too! With a bit of help from Daddy and Brubba, our toddler sat in her first tree! To celebrate Earth Day, India Rose and Brubba planted some flower seeds. India was so excited to use her new watering can and Brubba was happy to help with this fun, Spring gardening activity. We are hoping to attract some beautiful butterflies to our yard. This brother and sister both love to be out in the sunshine and enjoy getting their hands dirty! We planted Forget Me Nots, Marigolds and Cleome. It is a wonderful way for India to learn about plant life and nature, being responsible for keeping something alive and the biggest lesson is in patience! India Rose & her big brother had the best time, flying a kite at Treasure Island Beach. It was the 1st time for either of them to fly a kite, after a couple of crash landings, they were soon experts 😂 Brubba did a great job helping his little sister and India shared her toy so nicely with him and the other kids on the beach. Christmas came early in our home. We wanted to celebrate Christmas with Aunt Toni while she was still here and she really wanted to see the kids open their gifts from her. So we had a mini Christmas day before she left. As you all know, Aunt Toni is the most amazing gift giver... This year she really has outdone herself. The kids were excited to put our Christmas tree up. This year India & Brubba did it all by themselves and they did a wonderful job! We loved sharing this special tradition with Aunt Toni. We took our toddler through the Scary Trail at Honeymoon Island. Honestly, it was quite frightening, filled with zombies and monsters! India Rose wasn't scared though, in fact she offered the undead creatures some candy and complimented them on their outfits 😂😂 She even managed to tame a couple of creatures of the night, with her cuteness! She is such a brave little girl! Perhaps the reason she wasn't scared was because Brubba had the scariest costume of them all. People kept standing next to him and having their picture taken, they thought he was part of the show 😂 If you are easily scared or your child is susceptible to nightmares, I wouldn't recommend this part of the event, but there was plenty of other fun to be had. The sun had been shining all morning, when Mama and India took a walk to their favorite coffee shop. Those storm clouds roll in quick here in Florida and when it rains... It RAINS! This week we celebrate National Fossil Day! So our family spent an evening on Blind Pass Beach, Sarasota County, searching for shark tooth fossils. It's such a pretty area and the sunset was gorgeous. India and Brubba found lots of beautiful shells and a few small shark teeth. The beaches in and around Venice, Florida, are known as the shark tooth capital of the world. 10 million years ago, Florida was under water and this part of the ocean was filled with so many prehistoric sharks. The water receded and the sharks died, leaving a huge cache of fossilized teeth behind! Sharks can produce up to 30,000 teeth in their lifetime and the conditions are just right for them to wash up in this part of Florida. Most of the teeth you find along the beach are quite small, for the larger teeth you must venture out into the ocean and use diving equipment. We were very happy with our little collection of teeth, it was a cool way for India to learn about fossils and even take home a souvenir. Thank you for watching Dear India Rose. The Hillsborough County Fair, outside of Tampa was an awesome evening of fun for our whole family! India has been looking forward to this all year. She particularly loves the Ferris Wheel (dad not so much 😂) and the carousel but she really wants to ride the big carnival rides with Brubba... Maybe next year! Happy Diwali to our friends around the world! After watching some YouTube videos about The Festival Of Lights, India was asking if she could go to India to see the celebrations. We tried to find a local festival but they were all too far away or not open to the public. So, Daddy surprised India with her own festival in the back yard. He decorated the trees with fairy lights and bought some sparklers. Our family had such a wonderful evening, eating candy and dancing. Brubba gave India some beautiful bead necklaces, which she shared with us all, she even made her own version of Rangoli from her beads. Our kids loved learning about this Indian tradition. Growing up in London, I was lucky enough to enjoy some amazing Diwali celebrations, teaching our children to embrace other cultures is important to us, their lives will be richer for learning about the world and all it's beautiful people!
