I have had a lot going on since the holidays so I have not been able to get out shooting or been able to spend much time on the computer. I know I have missed commenting on a lot of images from my flickr friends so I will try to catch up when I can.
Som chums browsing the jewelry selection at a market stall in the Grassmarket, on one of the few bright, sunny spring days we've had so far
Like their fellow subspecies, Alaska moose are remarkable herbivores that thrive on a diet rich in terrestrial vegetation, particularly forbs and new shoots from willow and birch trees. What truly sets them apart is their astonishing daily caloric intake, which can reach an impressive 9,776.5 calories! Despite the absence of upper front teeth, these majestic creatures adapt beautifully, employing eight sharp incisors on their lower jaw, a tough tongue, resilient gums, and flexible lips to chew through even the most challenging woody vegetation expertly. This incredible adaptability highlights the strength and resourcefulness of the Alaska moose in their natural habitat.

It's been a while since I got out there with the camera, but the workload that kept me away is now over, so I took advantage of today's morning sunshine to chase this hoverfly around the garden. The dill is homegrown. I'm quite proud of this fact; I'm in the process of developing a regenerative life.
Hopefully I should be more flickr active again and be able to take the time to browse your efforts.
Just browsing through the hard drive tonight and came across some scans from a year my wife (then girlfriend) and I spent backpacking around the world (October 2001 to October 2002). We visited 14 countries, had some amazing experiences and made some lifelong friends. I have to say as a stand alone 12 months, it was without doubt the best year of our lives.
This isn't meant as a serious image upload as it is a poor scan of a picture taken on a crappy Yashica film compact (which stopped working somewhere in Malaysia about half way through the trip!) and a long time before I got serious about photography.
By my calculations it was taken in January 2002 in Angkor Wat, Cambodia. I thought this image was wonderful at the time and while I now wish I was into photography back then and had the equipment I had now, in reality I wouldn't change a single thing about that trip :)

White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) obviously love to munch on the leaves of Sassafras (Sassafras albidum).
Another Verticordia flowering yellow and turns red as it ages.
Best seen at full size to see how fluffy the flowers are.
Shrub, 0.15-0.6 m high. Fl. green-yellow/red, Sep to Nov.

Browsing some old folders and found this from June 2013. This courtroom gets virtually no daylight at all so was lit by means of torch wafting.
Not too difficult of course - when you're upwards of 18' in height! Friend giraffe seen hangin' out @ Como Park Zoo..St. Paul, Minnesota.
DAY THREE. To download with phone browsers, force them into the "PC" or "Desktop" mode and you'll see a download arrow. Tag your photographer! Requests to Instagram or waterbloggged at mail dot com
The last Friday of each month sees the regular Speakeasy night at the award-winning Edinburgh Bookshop - some socialising, book browsing, chat, some gin and tonics then a talk with an author or other speaker.
For April's Speakeasy it was a very timely subject with Patrick Dunne talking to us about taking part in the Extinction Rebellion movement which has been staging demonstrations and protests in numerous cities in the UK and Europe and further afield (with young Greta Thunberg being one of the most publicly visible demonstrators).
It was a terrific evening, generating a good bit of debate about what individuals can do to try and play a part in not just trying to avert environmental catastrophe, but in changing our politics and economic system to something more humane and fair, that involves us all.
Patrick and others will have a Fringe show in Edinburgh this August on this time, you can follow him here twitter.com/paddywpd
The Speakeasy takes place the last Friday of each month from 5.30pm in the Edinburgh Bookshop in Bruntsfield, right on Holy Corner, and is free, all welcome to come along: www.edinburghbookshop.com/
Delightful summer morning watching the local “kids” (cygnet Trumpeter Swans) browsing among the lily pads while dragonflies buzzed around. Taken in Lincoln County, Wisconsin on July 7, 2019.
The new Foyles flagship at 107 Charing Cross Road houses a range of over 200,000 different titles on four miles (6.5km) of shelves - the equivalent of lining one bank of the Thames with books from Battersea Power Station to the Tower of London.
With 37,000 square feet of retail space, spread across eight alternating foot-plates over four floors, it is the largest bookshop to have opened in the UK so far this century. Alongside books, we have a wide range of gifts and stationery, magazines, printed music, classical music CDs and Classic and World DVDs as well as Ray's Jazz, Grant & Cutler Foreign Languages, a Cafe and an Auditorium. An impressive full height central atrium and large windows fill the space with natural light, while the layout allows for easy navigation and the serendipitous discovery of new books.
While the new shop was being built, there was a competition with ten illustrators from Central Saint Martins to create illustrations for a large-scale building wrap to cover the new building while it was under construction.
Artist Rebecca Hendin's entry was selected, commissioned and on the facade of the building until late last year. In January 2015, we were delighted to hear that her design had been awarded bronze in the advertising category of the Society of Illustrators Los Angeles Awards.
Foyles, which was founded in 1903 by brothers William and Gilbert Foyle, first opened on Charing Cross Road in 1906 and moved to its location at 113-119 Charing Cross Road in 1929. Declared by William Foyle to be 'the world's first purpose-built bookshop', it quickly became one of the capital's most well-known literary landmarks. William's daughter, Christina, built friendships with some of the leading writers of the time and pioneered bookshop author events, beginning a lecture series in the 1920s and founding the famous Foyles Literary Luncheons in 1930. The move to 107 Charing Cross Road in June 2014 marks a new chapter for our world-renowned, family-owned bookshop.
Employing more than 80 expert booksellers to who are be happy to offer any help or advice, Foyles is at the spatial home of bookshops in London

The all-in-one Flickr extension for Google Chrome has been upgraded to work with, and take advantage of, the features of the new flickr photo pages.
Join the Official group: www.flickr.com/groups/patr/
Among the many, many features of Patr for flickr, are the ability to show the exif data of an image just above the new flickr geo-map feature. (top picture)
Also, a much requested addition, the ability to move the photo comment box to just beneath the photo, as opposed to beneath all of the other comments. (bottom picture)
