I haven't been out photographing for a long time. Here is another one from the archives.
The reticulated giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis reticulata), also known as the Somali giraffe, is a subspecies of giraffe native to Somalia, southern Ethiopia, and northern Kenya.
The reticulated giraffe is among the most well-known of the nine giraffe subspecies. Together with the Rothschild giraffe, it is by far the giraffe most commonly seen in zoos.
The extraordinary height of the Reticulated Giraffe allows them to browse on branches of trees that other hoofed animals cannot reach. This has helped make the Reticulated Giraffe one of the most successful animals of the African savannah.
The Reticulated Giraffe feeds mainly on Acacia and Combretum trees, however, it will eat as many as 100 different plants depending on which are available at the time.
The Reticulated Giraffe gets a large amount of water from the dew on the leaves and from the water in the leaves. When it encounters a watering hole, it will drink up to 12 gallons at one time. – Wikipedia

Browsing the Riverbanks of DamaralandA desert-adapted African elephant raises its trunk in a powerful display within the green riverine corridors of Namibia’s Damaraland. A moment of strength and presence in one of Africa’s most remarkable landscapes.
After placing bird feeders in our back yard we've had several new species of birds arrive. Among them are American Goldfinch's. I've seen one (maybe two) in the past 23 years we've lived here but this year many have descended upon our abode. This male seems choosy in his food selection.
Since I can't travel because of the current pandemic I might as well take advantage of the opportunities that're right under my nose.

Under a warm July sun, Saluda, North Carolina hosted its 62nd annual Coon Dog Day on Saturday, July 12, 2025. The festival, a staple in this small mountain town, drew thousands of visitors throughout the day and into the night. What began decades ago as a simple gathering organized by the Blue Ridge Coon Dog Association has grown into a full-day celebration of local culture, coonhounds, and Appalachian tradition—while still maintaining a strong community feel.
The day kicked off at 8 a.m. with a 5K run and a separate fun run, both of which were fundraisers for the local school. Runners gathered at McCreery Park and made their way down Main Street, passing through the heart of Saluda. Despite the rising heat, turnout was solid. The event was chip-timed and open to anyone, with many participants returning year after year more for the tradition than competition.
After the race, Main Street quickly filled up. Dozens of vendors lined the sidewalks, setting up tents under the shade of trees and awnings. Food trucks and booths served regional staples—barbecue, cornbread, fried snacks, sweet tea. Other vendors sold handmade goods, woodcrafts, soap, antiques, dog gear, and Coon Dog Day merchandise. The crowd moved steadily, stopping to browse or chat with friends and neighbors. Music played on speakers around the park and stage area, creating a low background hum that never really stopped.
By 11 a.m., the parade began. People lined both sides of Main Street early to get a good view, setting up chairs or standing behind temporary barricades. Leading the procession were fire trucks and emergency vehicles from local departments, followed by restored antique cars and tractors. Then came the homemade floats—some built by local businesses, others by clubs or longtime residents. The highlight for many was seeing the coonhounds walk through with their handlers. Black-and-tans, redbones, blueticks, walkers—all breeds were represented. The dogs wore bandanas, collars, or harnesses, and some even matched their owners’ outfits. For a town that honors these dogs year after year, this moment was a simple but meaningful nod to the breed's importance in the region’s hunting and working history.

This collection of images is in color—my first collection contained black and white photos. The film simulation I used for this collection was not something I normally would have chosen—it was a little bold, intense and flashy for me. Since I didn’t want to spend money on the FIMO app I was using on my phone for this project I embraced the constraints this led to and used this simulation because it came free with the app. This exercise in getting outside my comfort zone was a growing experience for me. I found it interesting how the app made variable, random decisions for me adding elements I had no control over—bright, saturated colors and simulated light leaks—that added an element of joy, surprise and cheer to the pictures I took which I found to sometimes be uplifting and encouraging.

Excerpt from historicbridges.org/bridges/browser/?bridgebrowser=ontari...:
This bridge is a rare example of a pin-connected truss bridge in Ontario. This once common bridge type is rare thanks to demolition and replacement of these bridges, despite their heritage value as some of the oldest metal bridges in Ontario. This bridge is particularly special as it appears to have a rich history. The bridge was apparently originally a railway bridge and may have been relocated to its current location before being converted for vehicular use. The bridge is labeled as the "T. I. R. R." Bridge which may mean "Thousand Islands Rail Road" This is evidence that the bridge was originally a railway bridge, and this theory is also further supported by the bridge's unusually large floor beams and narrow roadway width.
The bridge's trusses appear to retain good historic integrity with no major alterations noted. The heavy floor beams are connected to the truss via an uncommon pin connection to the vertical member, these connections being separate from the bottom chord connections. This design is in contrast to the traditional system of u-bolt hangers that would have extended down from the bottom chord connections to hold the floor beam. The unusual, perhaps more rigid and heavy duty, method of holding the floor beams may be yet more evidence of this bridge's railway past.
Tonight I present a stream of consciousness exercise in linking three unrelated photos. Just for fun. To begin with, let's assume this bunny knows there is a cat in the neighborhood, which is why the bunny is running away.
Enter the cat. Perhaps thinking of bunny stew, and licking its chops at the thought. Unless the cat, seeing me there with my camera, is thinking about photographer stew.
The bird fits in because it is a CATbird, a natural segue. (If you're not sure how to pronounce "segue," here's a link:
dictionary.reference.com/browse/segue
The Catbird gets its name because it sounds like a cat mewing, but actually this bird makes a lot of other delightful sounds. Have a listen here:
www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Gray_Catbird/sounds
The other interesting characteristic of the Gray Catbird is the patch of rusty red feathers under its tail (the undertail coverts, as they say in the birding world). And perhaps this can link us back to the beginning, because we get to see the rear ends of both the rabbit and the bird. And that's the end of this tale, as well. Hope you've enjoyed it, and the photos too.
Driving past Harwood Forest, Northumberland early this morning when we spotted this Deer browsing on the vegetation. Opened the window & rapid fired!!
Leafy branches that are offered to an animal are referred to as "browse." Tatu was enjoying his special snack, but I think he was also happy to see people. He often appears to be smiling.
