Little gift from my godchild

Deserve an old fashioned plate, don't you think >??...so I dug out a pretty one I found at a garage sale... Like to keep them around for special photos or just to put a little something special on for snacks. Petit Point design... from ages ago...but it has lots of my favourite colours in it... and a bit of bling too....

According to legend... brownies in some form have been around since the late 1800's ....

This one is the recipe on the Fry's Cocoa tin... always tasty... Bernie loves them.

Bored, I took a picture of my Kodac Brownies viewfinder and played with some old pics

Last month, I bought a 1950's era Kodak Brownie Hawkeye camera for $5 at a local pawn shop. Aside from a crack in the body, it was in great shape. I cleaned it up, covered the crack with some gaff tape to prevent light leaks, and ran a roll of film through it.

If you give it a steady surface to rest on (in this case, the bed of my pickup truck) it can turn out a decent photo. With a shutter speed of approximately 1/30s, hand held shots yield blurry results, which I discovered as most of my shots were. Of course, that doesn't really matter when you are making prints at about 3x3 inches, which is what this camera was designed for.

Closeup shot of the spring bear cub I call Brownie. Photographed in Alaska at Lake Clark National Park off Cooks Inlet. Taken just 20 minutes from the Silver Salmon Creek Lodge.

I like thinking about all the places this camera has been.

I still don't think I'm getting the brownies right. Maybe I should put icing on them or something but I still like this picture.

When we were out for lunch last week, Jasmine had a Chocolate Brownie for dessert. This resulted in another ';squared circle' for the collection...............

My family grew bigger. My newly adopted girl Brownie. She came from St.Croix animal shelter as a result of rescue operation made by wonderful people of St.Croix welfare animal center and Rescue Island dogs center.

Wishing all a safe and happy weekend!

I decided to start today earning some 'Brownie points' as I call them, for when I want to get away with something. That something happens to be a nine day trip to Iceland leaving my wife at home. So on my list this morning amongst other things were, clean the cooker, walk the dog, wash the kitchen and utility floor and hoover up around the place.

Despite being easily distracted, and finding my way to do other more pleasant jobs for myself that weren't on my wife's list, I found myself in the front hallway with a 'need to tidy up' mentality. My daughter had left some of her junk and gone off to Florida and I was just tidying her stuff up when I noticed a small object on the carpet which I was going to hoover as soon as I stopped being distracted.

Bending down to pick it up I raised the curious object to my eyes and was pretty amazed to see that the tiny things were actually a pair of scissors. And that is them balanced on the end of my finger. They are that small!

Well, one of the things on my mind was "Macro Mondays" theme of "Cutter". Until that moment I was going to do something with some large serrated kitchen scissors but suddenly....!!!! Well they must have dropped out of my daughter's dolls house stuff. Rarely have I been more pleased to be told to do some domestic chores, when this was the prize!

Right! Back to the house work. Need alot more points.

(PS. The scissors are 15mm long)

Although George Eastman - the founder of the Kodak Company - was not involved in the invention of photography , his patents and the products coming from his factories (cameras, films, chemicals) were of great importance for the development and acceptance of photography . This sample of 'Brownie' cameras made between 1900 an 1980 illustrate the simplicity of design and construction (from cardboard and wood , metal , Bakelite and modern plastics) .

We've had this little vintage brownie for ages and it's sat happily on my book shelf until Immy asked to take my photo. Think it makes rather a sweet prop.

Brownie 127 with 30 year expired FP4, dev ID11

==========================================

This is one of the oldest cameras you can use with modern, still being produced, film. Because this camera is one early variant of the Kodak No.2 Brownie, which introduced to the World the 120 format.

It's a more complex model of the Brownie, the No.2 Folding Brownie model A, and it's interesting because still retains most of the structure in wood. The model A was produced from 1904 to 1907, but with that Brownie Automatic shutter only to 1905. So this camera is about 113 years old right now. And apparently still in working order!

Since I do all the grocery shopping and cooking I am always ultra-careful that the food I buy and serve is the healthiest I can find. Recently I broke one of my own rules and started using boxed mixes. I would NEVER do that unless I was sure the ingredients were really good.
