My first approach was to "mystify" the refill blade by getting extra close to my subject with the Laowa 2x Ultra macro lens, but to my surprise (or maybe not so surprising at all), I didn't find any mystery the closer I got.
So I decided to stick to my second idea: trying to make it look futuristic, like a starship of sorts. So I experimented with my improvised colour filters and the handheld flashlight (to highlight the blades). I did in-camera focus stacking, but combined the final images in Helicon Focus because this usually yields slightly better results than the in-camera combined JPG.
So, does this look like a flying saucer? Maybe not even remotely, but I think it looks a little futuristic anyway (after all, even Captain Picard needs to shave every morning), and it also reminds me of a brooch.
HMM, Everyone! And to our French members: Happy Bastille Day/Bon 14 juillet :)

For Smile on Saturday theme of only one object, a flower brooch passed down to me from my grandmother.
It was hard to choose only one object, I spent time looking through my jewelry and came up with this unusual piece. Happy Smile on Saturday! Thank you for views, faves, and comments. 😀💕
“A nanny, by being the child's doughty defender, may put sensitive noses out of joint.” – Jacob Rees-Mogg (British politician)
Antique jewellery can often be not just beautiful, but also a wonderful window into a time gone by, such as this charming antique nanny brooch dating from the Victorian era. Dating from the 1880s, this was, as the name suggests, worn by the family nanny as a traditional brooch and when she was out with the children, if they tore a hole or seam in their clothing whilst playing, it could quickly be repaired thanks to the hollow section in the centre that contained needle and thread. Made simply of brass and set with a goldstone or aventurine with a stylised fleur de lys leaf pattern to either side of it, the brooch measures 48.8 millimetres in length by 6 millimetres wide at the centre, and one end cleverly unscrews to allow the needle and thread to be kept securely inside and ready at a moment's notice.
The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 1st of September is "needles". I immediately thought of an etui (a small ornamental case for holding needles) of which I have several in my possession. Then I remembered that my mother gave me an antique nanny brooch a few years ago. She had great pleasure watching my face light up with delight as I unscrewed the secret compartment to reveal the needle and threads, more than a century old, carefully ensconced in the bar of the brooch. Although not made in gold or platinum, or set with sapphires or diamonds, there is no doubt that this antique nanny brooch is just as charming as any antique brooch and certainly a wonderful talking point. One can almost imagine the scene now with rambunctious children of a wealthy Victorian era family playing in a park, whilst under the caring gaze of Nanny. I hope you like my choice for the theme this week, and that it makes you smile.

The theme for the week is "pin badge". This lovely brooch belonged to my mother-in-law and should have been given a proper cleaning before being used as the subject of my work today. HMM!
These two brooches are very characteristic late nineteenth-/early twentieth-century souvenirs of the Grand Tour. Both are glass mosaic and have Roman motives --- the top one the doves and roses, the bottom one famous Roman architecture, i.e. the Pantheon, St Peter's Square, and the Colosseum. The style must have been very fashionable in Victorian England.
Dutch WW2 patriotic anti-German brooch.
When Nazi Germany invaded the Netherlands in may 1940 the majority of the Dutch people were very upset and angry and wanted to show their true feelings.
To do this they wore all sorts of brooches, often handmade.
But to everyone's shock the Dutch Nazi's responded in a violent manner.
People wearing pins and brooches like these could be beaten up in the street, often groups of WA thugs would violently assaulted, even young girls, housewives and elderly people wouldnt be spared.
This is such a brooch, made from three little clogs painted in the national colours.
I like wearing these old brooches.
Sometimes they get me into trouble because people think they are so patriotic they are right wing.
I love it when people confront me and want to know why I am wearing a brooch like that. Of course I cant resist telling them the real background of the brooch I am wearing and it always ends with them looking puzzled and confused as they stumble on. ;)
Macro Mondays - My Favorite Novel (Fiction)
"Anne of Green Gables" is a 1908 novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery.
It recounts the adventures of Anne Shirley, an 11-year-old orphan girl who is mistakenly sent to Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, a middle-aged brother and sister who had intended to adopt a boy to help them on their farm in the fictional town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island. The novel recounts how Anne makes her way with the Cuthberts, in school, and within the town.
This picture reminds me of the day when Anne is suspected of losing a valuable family memento, the Maryla brooch. Everything indicates that she will be sent back to the orphanage, but fortunately this and all Anne's stories end happily :)

A Macro Mondays submission on the topic "keepsake". Sweetheart brooches were given to the wives or sweethearts of active servicemen. This one was given to my mother by my father during his time in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) during the second world war.

Mixed-media creation with recycled tin can, paper, ink colors, wax.
This silver brooch belonged to my granddad. He bought it for my christening, many years ago. It has my name engraved and the blue stone seems to have some sort of figure in it, although it has faded a lot during the years.
When he died, at the very respectable age of 92, I inherited it.

Brooch for Inheritance for Macro Monday my Aunt gave me this just before she passed away, I don't know where she got it from or what it's made of, (there are no stamps or marks on it) but I have always loved it and wear it for special occasions it is an inch wide. HMM everyone.
