Colorful courtyards created in he greenhouse for the 2025 Orchid Show, the New York Botanical Garden. This year's theme inspired the use of a lot of cacti and succulents, in keeping with the Mexican Modernism theme. I like the slanting shadows from the ale afternoon sunlight here, The Bronx, NYC -- February 21, 2025
- I am able to photograph this sign while driving because traffic on the Cross Bronx Expressway is so bad that I am only going 4mph when passing this sign...EVERY DAY!
Thanks to Ces, T-kid, Serve, Rask, Sums and all the cool cats at Tuff City. Totally mad and magic week in New York. Better and more flicks soonski.
Here's Alice
again, this time waiting for
a friend as the Wabash
Cannonball arrives at
Union Station in Chicago
and/or Los Angeles
in August, 1933. I
took this photo in a dream
I was having the other night,
a recurring dream in which
I lose my camera, or
it gets broken - does
anyone else have these? - so the
camera must be a symbol
to me sent from my
subconscious self -
but of what and why? Just my
need to photograph, to make
art out of the everyday - to fold
reality into beauty and find
beauty in darkness and
turn darkness into light
and light into color? Or
stop time? Or touch
the timeless? Or to share
it with you, my friends who
I know only in the ether, yet
who are way more real to me
than people I see in the flesh
and who, I assume,
can see me?
And what's the symbology here -
Alice- a fairy-tale creature,
a whimsy, a song,
a myth - yet timeless
in this smoky locomotive
eternal Americana, forever
between trains,
forever a poem,
a melody,
yet beautiful and
sensual and real
electric and alive
though only in two
dimensions and some
unseen. What does it mean?
Why do we do the things
we do?
It's dreamy weather we're on
You waved your crooked wand
Along an icy pond with a frozen moon
A murder of silhouette crows I saw
And the tears on my face
And the skates on the pond
They spell Alice
I disappear in your name
But you must wait for me
Somewhere across the sea
There's a wreck of a ship
Your hair is like meadow grass on the tide
And the raindrops on my window
And the ice in my drink
Baby all I can think of is Alice
Arithmetic arithmetock
Turn the hands back on the clock
How does the ocean rock the boat?
How did the razor find my throat?
The only strings that hold me here
Are tangled up around the pier
And so a secret kiss
Brings madness with the bliss
And I will think of this
When I'm dead in my grave
Set me adrift and I'm lost over there
And I must be insane
To go skating on your name
And by tracing it twice
I fell through the ice
Of Alice
And so a secret kiss
Brings madness with the bliss
And I will think of this
When I'm dead in my grave
Set me adrift and I'm lost over there
And I must be insane
To go skating on your name
And by tracing it twice
I fell through the ice
Of Alice
There's only Alice
