They're running out of fuel, and losing height, having already thrown all of their ballast overboard.

A range of mountains is coming up in the distance, and they need to lose weight the clear them.

As they come up to the first mountain peaks, the Englishman declares "This is what Churchill would have done" and jumps out, and the balloon clears the range.

Another range is coming up, and they need to gain more height. The Frenchman declares "This is what Napoleon would have done" and jumps out, and the balloon clears the range.

They're coming up to the final range they need to clear and again need to gain more height, and proudly the American declares "This is what Trump would have done" and chucks the Mexican out.

I'm not a Trump fan but its a decent joke.

Balloons over the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol. What's not to love?

Explore #7 popped in at the last minute.

I havent posted in a while, or done that much photography for that matter, but I thought I had better get a token photo from the balloon fiesta this year.

I wanted to get something a bit different this time around. Quite a few people were a bit bemused by my positioning for the balloon parade, but then a few of them cottoned on to what I was trying to do and came to try themselves.

This one is the from the pond underneath Cabot Tower, which is always a popular viewing spot and most importantly... a few minutes from my house :-)

This is Samantha, a fellow visitor to the Bristol Balloon Fiesta 2016. Her hat caught my eye immediately and I thought it would look great against the backdrop of balloons. After taking a number of photos I switched location which was a bit of a mistake as I noticed them starting to inflate a TEAM GB balloon. Sadly, Samantha had moved too but after scanning the crowd frantically, I managed to spot her again and capture this candid.

My approach to candid photography needs a bit of work, my rather clumsy introduction "hey, I have been taking photos of you ..." could have been better, although I did manage to get an email address in which to send a few photos. She apparently had a team GB hoodie on underneath to which I joked "perhaps less is more". Anyway, that's me done with candids for a while. :-)

The weather put a stop to the photo opportunities so the next few will be from my Saturday travels. Thanks for a fun weekend Dan and Ed, I look forward to seeing your photos! :-)

Go TeamGB! (more medals please!!)

Perfect weather condtions for the 2014 Bristol Balloon Fiesta Night Glow on Thursday.

Early start to grab a place for the tripod this morning. Although the wind direction meant the Balloons didn't drift towards us, I still like how this came out.

After 3 years of wasted trips to Clifton Suspension Bridge to try for a photo of the mass balloon lift this year I finally had some luck with the Friday morning. The wind didn't quite do what I wanted, and bring the balloons over the bridge, but beggars can't be choosers.

Every year, during the first week-end in August, twice a day, the skies in Bristol are a spectacle of colour and fun. This year, over 130 hot air balloons are taking to the sky in all manner of shapes and sizes. The balloonists come from the UK, Europe and as far as Mexico.

i also took some lomo shots of the balloons while my time lapses where shooting.

Waiting for the balloons taking off is great. There is nothing there to think about except to wait for the first balloon taking off from Ashton Court. Then, the moment has come - mass ascent.

This was originally published on my old Flickr profile. Since then, I made a slight change to bring out the details a bit more.

13/08/2016; There would be mass ascents at the Bristol Balloon Fiesta on Thursday morning and evening, and on Saturday morning and evening.

The ones on Thursday were already cancelled because of the hard wind, and so was the mass ascent on Saturday morning. Then the estate where the fiesta was held turned out to be nothing more than a huge funfair and food shed, and with all of that in mind I went to the observatory of Clifton Suspension Bridge on Saturday late in the afternoon anyway.

At 18:00, when the mass ascent was supposed to start, nothing happened again, so I told myself to pack my stuff and go if nothing is still happening at 18:30. However shortly before 18:30 some people standing next to me said it was about to start, based on updates on Twitter. So I decided to stay for a bit longer.

Nothing was happening at 18:45, at 19:00 still nothing was happening, other than that I started needing a loo. But on 19:15, it finally started. Still not all 100 balloons, about 40 took off in the end, and unfortunately the wind wasn't favourable enough for the balloons to head in my direction, but I'm glad enough with what I saw.

Photos from the Saturday mass ascent at the 2018 Bristol International Balloon Fiesta. Sadly it was the only mass ascent this year, but thankfully they flew right over the Clifton Suspension Bridge and many landed nearby on the Downs.
