It is located in the port of Hamburg—within the HafenCity quarter—and was built from 1883 to 1927. The district was built as a free zone to transfer goods without paying customs. As of 2009 the district and the surrounding area is under redevelopment.

The Fairmont Empress, formerly and commonly referred to as The Empress, is one of the oldest hotels in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Located on 721 Government Street, it is situated in Downtown Victoria, facing the city's Inner Harbour. The hotel was designed by Francis Rattenbury, and was built by Canadian Pacific Hotels, a division of the Canadian Pacific Railway company. The hotel is presently managed by Fairmont Hotels and Resorts.

Opened on 25 January 1908, the Châteauesque-styled building is considered one of Canada's grand railway hotels. Since its opening, the hotel has undergone two expansions, the first from 1910 to 1912, and a second expansion in 1928. The building was designated as a National Historic Site of Canada on January 1981.

I have visited this church for the third time, with my first two visits occurring during warm weather. Since the leaves have not yet grown, I decided to stop by and take some photos. The church is located in Clay County, Nebraska.

Has been in business since 1904 and is still open. (No, I didn't stay there.)

Beautiful, architectural and histoorical shoefactory with autumn colors and there are a lot of little beautiful details.

An old scan of a photo I took in Seattle after the 2001 earthquake.

I worked in Pioneer Square at the time, the oldest part of Seattle, where the buildings are all made of brick. (There was a building ordinance passed after the 1889 fire that burned down the entire area that any new buildings had to be made of brick.) The building I worked in was over 100 years old and I didn't know until after the quake that it had been earthquake-proofed. I thought when we walked outside, all the buildings would be just piles of rubble, so to see just some bricks had caved in and a water main broken wasn't that big of a deal. Although one bunch of bricks fell right on top of someone's truck and smashed it.

This is the Alaskan Way viaduct, runs along Seattle's waterfront, and it isn't earthquake proof. I think it if collapsed, Seattle's entire waterfront would cave in. The sea wall is also not earthquake proof at this point.

I love old architecture like this. Just look at the interesting details around the windows! I like the matching dirty snow on the street as well. Lol

Also, I can’t imagine a world without the arts. Music, dance, visual arts (like photography!), etc. are essential to me. I’m sure that a lot of you feel the same.

Anyway, I hope that your week is starting out right. x

Cobble stone side street in the Old Port, Portland, Maine.

A historic factory site on the banks of a rapids right in the heart of the city centre with its power plants.

I needed to sit down and rummage through my satchel for a Clifbar and it just figures, I embarrassed myself trying to sit the wrong way, with my legs in the tree area. Sometimes I feel like if it weren't for haplessness I'd hardly have any personal characteristics at all!

But speaking of Clifbars, I think stores ought to sell them next to the granolabars etc instead of with the medicines. Target are you reading this.

And speaking of buying food in the medicines department @ Target, I saw where Soyjoy bars were on sale and I hadn't ever eaten those and there were berry-flavored ones so I bought a box. And oh my gosh they are dry and small.

Marietta hasn't got a Target store but the residents want one. In downtown Marietta I like the brick skyscraper's high height.

A quiet moment on Bedford Street, where city grit meets floral charm in the heart of West Village. Captured during my 2023 holiday, this scene blends classic New York architecture with lush storefront greenery and everyday urban life.

This village has a population of less than 2,000. Reached it's peak during the steamboat building and tobacco warehousing era. Now trying to attract tourists. Been especially hard hit over the past couple of years. Once the center of a very active "Underground Railroad." Many slaves crossed the Ohio River at Ripley, shedding slavery and begin their journey for freedom in the eastern U.S. Inspiration for Harriet Beecher Stowe's "Uncle Tom's Cabin." There are many historical sites in this beautiful village.

Previously the building housed the office of a large company, now it is part of a really big art center.

Was checking out Seattle’s waterfront one night and walking back to the hotel. Suddenly came across this narrow street with lots of light hung across beautiful brick buildings. Luckily had my camera with me to capture this amazing arrangement. Still do not know what this street is called.
