Waiting for breakup. Every year, there's a lottery betting on when the ice will break and the Nenana tripod will flow down the Tanana River. Last year’s winnings was a tidy $283,723.
You can see Parks Highway Bridge, the 1923 Mears Memorial Bridge and some of Nenana in this 300 degree shot. Five shots taken with a Canon 15mm fisheye, stitched in photoshop. I reposted this because I figured out how to straighten the horizon.
Sunset from the Hecla Island causeway over the weekend. The ice is starting to change colour from white to blue so it should be breaking up soon. I just hope we don't get the snow they're calling for.
my friend said we can't be friends anymore, but I have NO idea why. Not even a clue. She told me to message her sister and she'll tell me all about it, and I did, but I haven't gotten a response yet. This is confusing, I don't see the logic in leaving someone hanging.

Taken in spring 2009 right after the breakup. I'm sure I have some other photos from this time somewhere in my files. It was a bit more of a physical breakup this year, with all the pieces coming up onto MacDonald Island from the Athabasca River. It was amazing to walk around it and see all the large chunks of ice on the shore.

This young woman plays the part of Phillis Wheatley, a poet, scholar, and visionary wise beyond her time. Phillis Wheatley opens the door so that one day all may enjoy the vision of freedom expressed in our Declaration of Independence.
Phillis Wheatley (1753 – December 5, 1784) was the first published African American poet whose writings helped create the genre of African American literature.[1] She was born in Gambia, Africa, and became a slave at age seven. She was purchased by the Boston Wheatley family, who taught her to read and write, and helped encourage her poetry.
The 1773 publication of Wheatley's Poems on Various Subjects, Religious and Moral, brought her fame, with dignitaries such as George Washington praising her work. Wheatley also toured England and was praised in a poem by fellow African American poet Jupiter Hammon. Wheatley was emancipated by her owners after her poetic success, but stayed with the Wheatley family until the death of her former master and the breakup of his family. She then married a free black man, who soon left her. She died in poverty in 1784 while working on a second book of poetry, which has now been lost.[2]

Do you remember the days when every Sunday and most every night after 6 every parking lot looked like this? I do. And frankly, I think part of the breakup of the American Family structure is the fact that stores are open 24/7 and nearly 365 days a year. As I recall growing up, we had food, clothes and everything we needed with the stores open Mon-Sat and only late on Thur nights. Hmmm... Oh well...off the soap box. This was on Thanksgiving morning.
p.s. Happy Thanksgiving and forgive me for all of the post the next two days. I am going to catch up on my 365 project.
