"It's a beautiful day, well it seems as such
Beautiful thoughts means I dream too much..."
Blue Lines is the debut studio album by the English music group Massive Attack, released on 8 April 1991.
It featured breakbeats, sampling, and rapping on a number of tracks, but the design of the album differed from traditional hip hop. Massive Attack approached the American-born hip hop movement from an underground British perspective and also incorporated live instruments into the mixes.
Blue Lines is generally considered the first trip hop album, although the term was not widely used before 1994. A fusion of electronic music, hip hop, dub, 1970's soul and reggae, it established Massive Attack as one of the most innovative British bands of the 1990s and the founder of trip hop's Bristol Sound. Music critic Simon Reynolds stated that the album also marked a change in electronic/dance music, "a shift toward a more interior, meditational sound. The songs on Blue Lines run at 'spliff' tempos – from a mellow, moonwalking 90 beats per minute ... down to a positively torpid 67 bpm. (From Wikipedia)

For anyone interested, below is a link to a recording of mine. This one is breakbeats from start to finish, so a bit different than what some might expect to hear from me.

BAUT is a project by Jan Brokof (Drawings / Collages), Alfredo Bautista (Sound Installations / Noise Devices), Theo Boettger (Drawings / Installations), and Martin Böttger (Visual Art / Sculpture).
The concept of the project BAUT is to found a band of different ascendancies of music; combining different genre like noise, electronic, break beat, metal, punk, rap, and soundscapes. The project is supposed to involve all things, a regular music band represents plus exploring the possibilities of visual artistic expression within a showcase.
Their first exhibition was held at the gallery Delikatessenhaus Leipzig; where they created three different rooms: a festival room for the performance, a merchandise room for selling shirts and vinyl, and finally the backstage room.

BAUT 7 INCH VINYL ON HAUTE AREAL
What happens if you take four artists who had nothing to do with music so far, give them a barrel full of magazines and electro garbage and ask them to create an audiovisual work out of it. Together. As a band with bandname, livegig, labeldeal, release etc. We have checked it out and don't want to withhold the result from the world.
Their oeuvre can be best described as experimental noise. The lyrics are mostly collages of quotations from diverse magazines and newspapers which were modified and combined with own text passages.

BAUT
I’m an ocean in your bedroom
Make you feel warm
Make you want to re-assume
Now we know it all for sure
I’m a dancehall dirty breakbeat
Make the snow fall
Up from underneath your feet
Not alone, I’ll be there
Tell me when you want to go
I’m a meth lab first rehab
Take it all off
And step inside the running cab
There’s a love that knows the way
I’m the rainbow in your jail cell
All the memories of
Everything you’ve ever smelled
Not alone, I’ll be there
Tell me when you want to go
Sideways falling
More will be revealed my friend
Don’t forget me I can’t hide it
Come again get me excited
I’m an inbred and a pothead
Two legs that you spread
Inside the tool shed
Now we know it all for sure
I could show you
To the free field
Overcome and more
Will always be revealed
Not alone, I’ll be there
Tell me when you want to go
Sideways falling
More will be revealed my friend
Don’t forget me I can’t hide it
Come again get me excited
Don’t forget me I can’t hide it
There's a match now let me light it
I’m the bloodstain
On your shirtsleeve
Coming down and more are coming to believe
Now we know it all for sure
Make the hair stand
Up on your arm
Teach you how to dance
Inside the funny farm
Not alone, I’ll be there
Tell me when you wanna go
I’ll be there and tell me when you wanna go
Come again and tell me when you wanna go
More will be revealed my friend…

listening to raz ohara & the odd orchestra - where he at (apparat remix)
„I used to walk up and down the streets every day - craving sights, sensations, encounters with people…experience.“ That was 1994, when Raz Ohara had just moved to Berlin.
Raz was 18 at the time. He soon found a room to rent above a jazz club. He sat there every night, listening to the music, watching the people, absorbing his surroundings.
It was a seedy, noirish world, like something from the American movies of the 80s. Raz bonded with the club’s resident DJ, and together they founded a hip-hop crew.
Raz, however, had a lingering and persistent desire to create his very own music, music of its own kind, music beyond any existing genre. He bought a sampler and started to produce beats that he could sing over. „I had always written songs on guitar, but now I was working hard to incorporate new elements. I gave the tracks to a small record company in Berlin-mitte.“ A year later the LP Realtime Voyeur was released on Kitty-Yo. At around the same time Raz started to make his first live appearances. He got to know Dr Phelbs and Robert Defcon (No Underground) and a Canadian guy called Wolf (aka Chilly Gonzalez). Every Wednesday night for almost 2 years, they, The Nightline City Cruisers, would sit on leather couches at the Maria club, playing improvised sets – drawing on breakbeat, soul, and electro - that lasted several hours. Robert supplied the beats, Phelbs played bass, Wolf took care of keys and Raz sang.
„We jammed on and on…People dancing round and round…We smoked and drank into the early mornings. I had just entered my twenties. This was my swinging Berlin, 1998.“
In February of 1999, Raz’s father - a freight ship captain - died at the hands of a storm in the cold, unforgiving Atlantic ocean. Since an early age he had been travelling around the world by ship with his father. Out there he felt some kind of freedom, and a desire to sing - loud and unconcerned, because nobody could hear him. His father’s sad passing reconnected Raz with the essence of why he was making music.
„I began writing songs on guitar again, just the way I did when I was 14. I recorded 17 tracks, simple songs, close-ups, reflecting my feelings at that time. I then again gave them to Kitty-Yo and they released in February 2001 as The Last Legend LP.“
Live performances went less well. „I had no energy and I was incapable of finding someone to help me…For all the people I knew, those I really understood and musically got along with had either gone mad or died. Even me, I began to think. I was increasingly isolated from the outside world.“
Then one day Raz’s publisher phoned him, asking if he would be interested in doing a track with a young, up-and-coming techno producer, Alexander Kowalski. Raz recorded his vocals, but his interest didn’t end there. He wanted to get involved with the club scene, and people in general, again. So he asked Alexander if he could play along with him on his live-sets. They had their first gig at the legendary Berlin club Ostgut (Berghain).
„That was a new world for me. I hadn’t seen anything like it…The crowd was very good-natured – in itself a new experience for me in Berlin.“
Shortly after, in 2002, the duo’s singles ‘All I Got To Know’ and ‘Hot Spot’ were released, and they toured extensively.
Some years passed by just like that. I started to do dance tracks and playing live-sets on parties myself. i sang on numerous productions of notable colleagues and my own dance tracks were being released on different labels.
Still, though, Raz’s restlessness persisted, as if he was ever seeking something, or at least trying to escape something. One day, he walked into Doerell. Raz had once seen him playing his album at an art exhibition; he’d also heard him play an ambient live set. Raz immediately recalled very how the vibe of his music imediately grabbed him and inspired him to say something, contribute something, sing something. „I had sat there and wishing I could meet someone who could help me do music similar to this. And now I run in to him on the street. We had a chat and made a date.“
Raz began to record song-sketches, giving them to Oliver Doerell. Oliver would take the sketches and add his own thoughts, collaborations and embellishments. Raz and he continued to hand sketches back and forth; the resulting album is Raz Ohara and the Odd Orchestra.

Yeah for some reason I created the pink in landscape rather than portrait format, so it looks weird. I might try and fix it one day.

listening to zomby - natalia's song
Luckily, the music of Zomby does – not that it’s that easy to pin down. Earlier releases have marked him out as a denizen of the post-rave diaspora, marshalling lurking dubstep bass, 16-bit sound effects, and on his debut album Where Were U In ‘92, a purposefully nutty love-letter to the hardcore era, all crashing breakbeats, airhorns and ragga toasting. Also present in his music, though, is a sort of ascetic centre – an emotional quality in some ways reminiscent of his peer Burial, but also redolent of Aphex Twin’s more melodic ambient work.
Dedication, Zomby’s debut LP for 4AD, resolves to explore this side of his music a little more fully. Recorded in tribute "to someone much loved and missed", it is a far more subtle collection than …In ‘92. Natalia’s Song, with its yearning synth and cut-up vocal line, is reminiscent of Burial, but throws in a wildcard of gentle, minor-key piano. Things Fall Apart, pixel-like melodies scattered over a snappy grime beat, boasts a sombre vocal from Animal Collective’s Panda Bear. And the drill’n’bass-ish Florence is exquisite in its construction, all beats like butterfly wings and synths so slender they might break in a strong wind.
The beauty of Dedication is the way it takes a sound palette familiar to the dancefloor, but uses it to paint an unfamiliar picture. When gunshots ring out on Witch Hunt, a wisp of choral synth and flickering snare, it feels less like a gangsta move and more like a metaphor only its maker understands. He probably won’t elaborate. Credit to this fine record that, when you actually listen to it, the need for explanation feels like the last thing on your mind.

"If you take three glasses of water and put food coloring in them, you have many different colors, but it's still the same old water. Make the connection?"...Dieser eine Satz. Immer wieder diese eine Satz...Ich fühle mich gerade wieder wie dieser 15jährige, der sich selbst zum ersten Mal verstanden hat..."

Yes, I really made this pose. It's no photoshop! :)
I was surprised that this pose worked out so great. Looks like I'm doing a breakbeat dance, haha.
I got up extra early today and drove to the old closed airport in the middle of Berlin. I wanted to take some sunrise pictures and I got a couple of great pictures. It was hard to choose on picture, so maybe I will post some outtakes from this morning from time to time. Damn, I love the colours of sunrises and also sunsets...
My first week back in school and work is nearly over and it was okay so far.
Today we had a beautiful late summer day and so I drove to the lake after school. It was very relaxing and also great to feel the sun on my skin again.
