This opportunistic photograph was one of the first taken with my Nikon Digital SLR camera. During a day out in Oxford Street, I spotted who I thought was a strikingly beautiful woman and requested to take her portrait. However, it quickly dawned upon me that this was in fact a man. This event sparked a brainwave that we tend to quickly misjudge people with our initial assumptions and I continued this theme in a small project during extra-curricular work.
Elephants are highly intelligent animals. Studies have shown that they possess various complex emotions and feelings, including deep compassion and surprising self-awareness.

There is no light on the outside stairs of my flat. So I can't see the steps if I go out after dark. I've tried a solar garden light but it doesn't get enough sunlight to make it work. Then I remembered that I have outdoor fairly lights. I'm going to wrap them around the fence tomorrow.

Meditation and the brain: Exploring the physiological correlates of mindfulness in a student sample
Kristina Humphreys
Augustana College
Mindfulness based training has been demonstrated to increase attention and awareness, and to reduce emotional reactivity. Additionally, these changes are reflected by structural and functional alterations to corresponding brain regions. We examined the effects of an 8-week mindfulness-based training course on first year students. Students were instructed through a guided mindfulness activity on a computer and headset. During the silent activity, students' brainwave frequencies were monitored using electroencephalography (EEG) while skin conductance was also measured (EDA). These measures were also compared to their scores on a mindful attention awareness scale (MAAS). Students' idividual differences in mental states corresponded to differences in brain wave frequencies and fluctuations in skin conductance.
