the crossbars that the square sails hang from are called yards, and the lines that adjust the positioning of the yards (they swivel around the mast, so as to set the sail for different wind directions) are called braces -- VERY heavy to adjust, so every now and then we'd get the call, "all hands to the braces!!"
the low sunset light made everything look more red than usual, too...
After school, Kendra came over.Her, Andrew, Raymond and I went to wal-mart and to the graffiti wall.She got braces that morning.Then her and I went to Safeway and bought like little ammounts of things and went to Kim's till.We filmed Kim working and then went back to Wal-Mart.Then she had to go home.So she did and I went home.
And talked to Darren for the first time in awhile.
I've had braces for a year. Despite the pain (and it has been painful, sometimes), the difference is astounding.
I have at least one more year left to go.

Bracing for the Future
"Braces" have perhaps become a right of passage for kids. Yet those braces carry significance that should not be overlooked. They are a sign of care and financial commitment by the parents of the child. They signify planning for the future. They are creating space for something good to happen. They are a lesson that short-term pain can produce long-term gain. Braces have their place as a unique and important experience in childhood.

Cliche I know, but I'm getting my braces off on wednesday and wanted to show them in a picture.
I'm wearing clothes. My tank top straps are just down.
And this is much more simple than my usual stuff, but I liked the way my processing worked, and the bokeh and the shadows. Yay!
But anyway, thank you braces for making me patient and giving me straight teeth. :D
