Peoria Illinois formerly the whiskey capital of the world. With it’s easy access to abundant grain, rail transportation, river transportation, and an incredible underground reservoir of clean fresh water, Peoria had all of the necessary ingredients for the distilling industry. The revenues from the whiskey industry were a major source of money for financing the American Civil War during the 1860’s. Great fortunes were made here by the Whiskey Barons who monopolized the trade during the late Victorian era. Their mansions still stand on the bluff above the city. Today the only bourbon made here is in the form of small craft distillers. ADM still uses the old Hiram Walker facility for making commercial ethanol.
Elle fut consacrée en 1791 et en 1822 le Français Prosper Catelin, avec Pierre Benoît, réalisa l'actuel portique néoclassique, inspiré du Palais Bourbon de Paris. L'ornementation du Frontispice, qui fut réalisé entre 1860 et 1863 par Dubourdieu, présente douze colonnes qui symbolisent les douze apôtres et un bas-relief qui représente la rencontre de Jacob avec son fils Joseph en Égypte.
----------------------------------------------It was consecrated in 1791 and in 1822 the Frenchman Prosper Catelin, together with Pierre Benoît, created the present neoclassical portico, inspired by the Palais Bourbon in Paris. The ornamentation of the frontispiece, which was made between 1860 and 1863 by Dubourdieu, presents twelve columns that symbolize the twelve apostles and a bas-relief that represents the meeting of Jacob with his son Joseph in Egypt.

La ornamentación del frontispicio, realizada entre 1860 y 1863 por Dubourdieu, presenta doce columnas que simbolizan a los doce apóstoles y un bajorrelieve que representa el encuentro de Jacob con su hijo José en Egipto.

When the fortress of Luxembourg was built in 1867, a whole new city district with spacious boulevards and grand city palaces was created on the flat Plateau Bourbon beyond the hilly old town. The ideal place to start your stroll along the boulevards is on the Pont Adolphe, the bridge that was built across the Pétrusse valley to the other bank in 1900 - the largest stone arch bridge in the world at the time.
At the other end of the Avenue de la Liberté is Luxembourg's main railway station, the Gare de Luxembourg CFL
Als die Festung Luxemburg 1867 gebaut wurde, entstand auf dem ebenen Plateau Bourbon jenseits der hügeligen Altstadt, auf dem Reißbrett ein ganz neues Stadtviertel mit großzügigen Boulevards und großartigen Stadtpalästen. Idealer Weise beginnt man den Boulevardbummel auf dem Pont Adolphe, der Brücke, die 1900 über das Tal der Pétrusse ans andere Ufer geschlagen wurde – damals die größte Steinbogenbrücke der Welt.
Am anderen Ende der Avenue de la Liberté liegt der Hauptbahnhof von Luxembourg, der Gare de Luxembourg CFL
