A Saison / Farmhouse Ale style beer brewed by Boulevard Brewing Co. in Kansas City, Missouri. It has scored 93 out of 100 with 952 reviews, ratings and opinions

Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment that’s just a bit persnickity. At Boulevard it’s fermenter number seven, the black sheep of the cellar family. Ironically, when their brewers were developing variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a flavourful surge of fruity aromatics and hoppy, grapefruit notes (Amarillo hops), this complex, straw-coloured ale finishes long, dry and spicy.

Available at Booths supermarket.

Beer anyone? Boulevard Beer, Unfiltered Wheat. Boulevard Beer is brewed in Kansas City, Missouri

Seriously hoppy, with a dark fruit and caramel backbone that is different from the brighter citrus notes of most IPAs. Big bottle at the end of a long week. Filled me right up. 3/28/14 Day 87

Well, this photo has been a long time in the making. About two and a half years to be exact. I posted a similar picture in my original Project 52 back in September of 2010. Sampling beer is still a hobby of mine (obviously). I am always looking for new beers from new breweries. Fortunately, brewing beer seems to be a hobby (or business) increasing in popularity these days. It seems that I find new micro brews that I have not seen or tried every couple of months. I always love to take advantage of the local brews when I travel as well, however, that is not as often as I would like.

In my previous photo I exhibited a collection of 49 different beers from many different breweries. This time around I intended to do the same, but apparently lost count. Above is a selection of 64 different beers; different from each other and different from all of the others in my previous shot. Some breweries have been repeated, but all of the beers are different. If you have not seen my previous shot, you can check it out here.

Strobist Info: SB-600 fired bare at 1/8 from high right (about 24 inches above the bottle caps) with my trusty aluminum foil covered pizza box reflector at left.

If there is one thing I have gained from living abroad, it is most certainly an everlasting appreciation of where I come from. I can honestly say that my childhood, especially high school through college was the best time of my life. QuikTrip, Boulevard Brewing Co, Gate's BBQ, the worst professional baseball and football team on the planet (that I still love to the bottom of my heart), the Sprint Center, Jazz, the Plaza, I could keep going for days.

Well this is place where I came from. This is the place where I became "Me".

This one is for all of you back home; friends and family, the ones that still love me whom I have abandoned, and the people I still love whom have abandoned me, I think of you every single day.

Dear Kansas City,

I love you, and I always will.

On Wednesday afternoon, Lorna and I took a tour of the Boulevard Brewing operation, in Kansas City, Missouri. But first, we went right to the Beer Hall. Boulevard has a Kolsch I was eager to sample, and so…

The beer is an oak-aged Scotch Ale from Boundary Brewery, Kansas City, while the Tampa Bay Times provided more tales of Wacky Florida. The more egregious stories from 2016:

* Off-duty policeman tasers his girlfriend during "horseplay". She is suing.

* Man offers payment at his local Wendy's by hurling a 3-ft live alligator through the take-away window. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, namely the alligator.

* Smelly fart prompts fight on a Miami bus.

* Part-time Florida resident is elected President of the United States.

Jonny knows me well enough to know exactly what I would like to see in a beer advent calendar and I have to give it to him, he knows his beers! Plus he's in Winnipeg right now and I work basically every day for the rest of the year so I don't get to bug him and hear him complain about how the winter in Winnipeg is so brutal.

Boulevard Brewing's Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale saison is one of my favourite saisons out there, nice and citrusy, fruity, and great as a dessert. Boulevard was actually one of the very first breweries I tried down in the States when I wanted to finally try American craft beer, instead of opting for the $12 30-can packs of Miller Lite. The first beer I had by them, Single Wide IPA was an incredibly delicious IPA, and not only that, it was $7 for a 6-pack! What a bargain!

Appearance: Tank 7 pours a mildly cloudy golden-orange straw. Thick and fluffy amount of cool whip-like foam, very thick, airy and fluffy. Decent amount of carbonation taking place, sounds of what reminds me of an oldschool laptop hard drive spinning like crazy.

Aroma: Mmm.. this is a nice Belgian-style saison, first here we have a nice lemon zest to start it off, lightly creamy, notes of bubble gum and Belgian yeast and to top it off.. light floral hop notes that give it a nice bitterness to it.

Taste: Sure not anywhere near as sour as yesterday's Saison, today's saison is more of a Belgiany citrus delight. A nice lemon citrus ale with a lot of yeasty action going on. Decent amount of sweetness. A hint of coriander, hint of orange peel, light grainy and surprisingly hoppy. A nice cascade bitterness that lingers at the end for the aftertaste, nice and floral.

Overall Thoughts: One of the best saisons on the market. I've yet to have a beer by Boulevard that I actually don't like... I don't think it's possible. Sweet, citrusy zest, good amount of floral hoppy bitterness makes this a great after work treat. Fairly light on the stomach so you won't be feeling bloated afterwards either. 8.5% ABV so the booze will likely creep up on you, but flavourwise.. I would have assumed this was a 5.5% ABV product, it hides the booze very well.

In the Boulevard Brewing Beer Hall, one of the best ways to find out what they serve is to order a Flight. This is a sample of a sampler that Lorna and I had. I had a Kolsch and a Scotch and Scotch. It was terrific!

Beer Advocate review

This week's selection was supposed to be Lvivske Premium Lager in honour of Ukrainian Christmas (З Різдвом Христови!) but I realized I already did the lager in week 19.

Instead, this week's selection is Single Wide I.P.A by Boulevard Brewing Co. from Kansas City, Missouri USA. I picked up a 6-pack while in Minot, ND as I wanted to try out new American brews, and since this was on sale ($6.99/6), I thought it was a decent price, and I do love IPAs (and not those Alexander Keiths FauxPAs).

First thing: I love the case it comes in, it's a resealable cardboard box.. similar to what we are used to in Canada (with a more durable cardboard, like that used in a 12-pack), I love that it has the ability to be re-sealed (I'll show a photo of that later). The box even states that you should keep the box to use to store CDs, letters or anything you may like (or recycle it, of course).

So time to try out the beer, pouring the beer in the glass - wow, nice aroma of citrus and grapefruit, taste wise, it has a nice hoppy and citrusy zing but it's certainly not as hoppy flavour-wise as say Winnipeg's Half Pints' Little Scrapper.

A very solid India Pale Ale, but certainly not a beer the Keith's "India Pale Ale" would like, as that's not an IPA in any sense.

One thing I didn't like about it - no mention of the alcohol content ANYWHERE on the bottle or case. I had to look it up online - it has 5.7% alcohol content (not bad), IBU of 57, and that "Boulevard Single-Wide I.P.A. is our take on a style that originated in 18th century Great Britain. This American version—inspired by our Smokestack Series Double-Wide I.P.A.—boasts a heady combination of six varieties of hops, some of which were employed for dry-hopping."

Another postcard that is also a beer mat.

In a first for any Major League Baseball team, the Kansas City Royals have named Boulevard Brewing their official 'craft' beer partner. Miller Lite remains as the team’s official beer.

In the Minor Leagues, there are also a few teams which have 'craft' beer sponsors, such as the Richmond Flying Squirrels —the AA farm team of the San Francisco Giants— whose home field is in Richmond, Virginia. Their official beer —not just their official 'craft' beer— is Chin Music Amber Lager, brewed for them by Center of the Universe Brewing, a 'craft' brewery located just north of the city.
