Singapore Botanic Gardens are an oasis of natural beauty and tranquility in a highly urbanized city. The Gardens were established in 1859, and retain the same layout and historical buildings until today.
The Gardens are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and are a global center for plant research, development, and conservation. This was a key institution involved with the introduction of rubber trees in South East Asia, which became a major cash crop for the region.
The greening of Singapore is a direct result of the Gardens' efforts, which devoted their expertise and resources to transform Singapore into the Garden City that it has now become.
The National Orchid Garden has the world's largest display of orchids, and is part of Singapore Botanical Gardens' orchid breeding program, with a repository of one thousand species and two thousand hybrids.

Note from SR: This is the glass covering the DMBG's indoor botanical gardens - the previous photo captured former green house windows used as props in the new greenhouse. Having grown up around greenhouses i find the old familiar and the new interesting.
Photographed in Sheffield Botanical Gardens, this elegant rose caught my attention with its soft cream petals and warm golden center. As each layer gently unfolds, it reveals a beautiful pattern of colour, texture and form. A small glimpse into the beauty, colour and craftmanship of the natural world.

Located on a tropical hammock at the southern gateway to Vero Beach, Florida, McKee Botanical Garden is where native plants and exotic botanicals combine with Old Florida charm. Follow the Garden's pathways through a grove of majestic palms; past tranquil streams accented with colorful waterlilies. Explore 18 acres of natural landscape preserved and restored to the vision of its founders. Discover trees, waterfalls and historic structures each with their own unique story.
In 1932, Arthur G. McKee and Waldo E. Sexton opened McKee Jungle Gardens on an 80-acre tropical hammock in Vero Beach, Florida. The two land developers employed landscape architect William Lyman Phillips, from the esteemed firm of Frederick Law Olmsted, to design the basic infrastructure of streams, ponds and trails while they focused their efforts on assembling one of the most outstanding collections of waterlilies and orchids ‐ augmenting native vegetation with ornamental plants and exotic specimens from around the world. By the 1940’s, more than 100,000 tourists were visiting the Gardens each year, deeming it one of Florida’s earliest and most popular natural attractions.
This flower is absolutely convinced it’s the star of the show and honestly, it kind of is. Every petal is over‑posed like it’s auditioning for a luxury skincare ad, while the stamens stand around like interns who weren’t told this was a black‑and‑white shoot. The background is blurred because, obviously, nothing else is worthy of being in focus.
This is the floral equivalent of someone who only speaks in “vibes” and insists they’re “not like other blooms.” It’s moody, theatrical, and one gust of wind away from a full existential crisis.
