Dawyck Botanic Garden, in the River Tweed valley near Stobo, Peebles on the Borders Region, Scotland is an outpost of the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh. First laid out in the 17th century, the gardens were given to the RBGE in 1978 and are hone to three of the Heritage Trees of Scotland as well as many other rare and exotic plants. The upper slopes are ideal for Heath Spotted Orchids and in June there were many examples in bloom here.
Opened in 1816, the garden is the oldest scientific institution in Australia and one of the most important historic botanical institutions in the world.
Porto
The Porto Botanical Garden might not be the most spectacular green space in Porto, yet it might just as well be visited by holidaymakers of Porto. The garden was created in 1951 under the patronage of the Portuguese state, on the former manor of Joao Henrique Andresen (acquired by the said Joao Henrique Andresen in 1895, and turned by its owner into a romantic garden). In time, the Porto Botanical Garden was greatly diminished, both in terms of size (now, its surface amounts to some 4 hectares) and plant life patrimony (though the diversity of the flora is quite notable).
However, at present the garden shelters sundry rare and exotic plant species, featuring highlights like the cacti garden, a greenhouse and a historical garden (the latter comprising a rose garden). There’s also a lake situated within the perimeter of the Botanical Garden, the habitat of a fairly numerous population of water lilies. The Porto Botanical Garden is managed by the Faculty of Sciences which pertains to the University of Porto.

This is a xeric gardener's dream. I was surprised to see so much cold-hardy cacti and succulents. I enjoyed seeing all the grasses, also. Chihuly is always amazing. I have seen the works at the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix and I know they have been on display at Meijer Gardens, too.
Under the velvety night sky, the Symphony Lake Stage glows like a lantern in the dark — its fluid, organic form radiating warmth into the stillness. Surrounded by a lily-covered pond that mirrors its curves, the structure becomes both performer and performance, a gentle spectacle of light and reflection. In this tranquil hour, the garden breathes slowly, and even without music, the silence feels symphonic.
