The Royal Botanical Gardens of Pamplemousses, called one of the top 5 botanical gardens in the world, were renamed Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Gardens in 1988 in honour of the late Prime Minister of Mauritius.
The garden's origins go back to 1735 when Labourdonnais bought a house in the grounds which he called Mon Plaisir. Now the gardens cover some 60 acres of land, and the plants in the garden include some 80 different species of palms.

This is a xeric gardener's dream. I was surprised to see so much cold-hardy cacti and succulents. I enjoyed seeing all the grasses, also. Chihuly is always amazing. I have seen the works at the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix and I know they have been on display at Meijer Gardens, too.
