Julia Butterfly | The Flame | Dryas iulia | Päiväliiho (Fin)
I don't normally photograph captive animals but this image is an exception. This Julia Butterly (also known as 'The Flame') was photographed in Botania tropical butterfly house in Joensuu, Finland. The species does not live in Finland.
Converted the background to monochrome to highlight the beautiful butterfly.
The species is popular in butterfly houses because it is long-lived and active throughout the day.
August 2016, Finland.
Here's another shot after following eDDie into the Denver Botanic Gardens. It's also one of the first actual flowers I found, although it's about as spare a blossom as one can find... and I have never seen one of these before. It still stands out even if it is spare. Maybe it is really fussy about the bugs or humming birds it attracts. This is surely not a very native plant in this area of the country. It's probably not as stickery as the yucca rotunda but its blossoms looks pretty pointy against the field of green.
There's a hazy sky and there's barely a breath of wind over here so I got few ripples in this shot. It's not the Hanging Gardens of Babylon because they are right side up and not hanging wrong side down. Oh, that's right, the Hanging Gardens were not even in Babylon but actually in Nineveh. The Denver Bionic Gardens takes a load of garden maintenance work even if they occasionally miss a spot. This spot is filled with color. Boy are all visitors slow to wander and slower to move away from my scene.
I'm still editing Botanic Garden shots while I stick with this series but I will soon need relief in form of a different subject, but what? I have lots of other captures from everywhere to edit.
This snap is yet another from an early summer eDDie trek, this time down to the Denver Botanic Gardens I have passed untold times but never invested my time or ponied up the entrance fee. This eDDie bought a season pass so I did another round of sponge bobbing at the right price. Boy, this place is loaded with distractions that were made for me! ...and, did I get distracted. Art in the park adds to the experience. Look everywhere to find art; he was missing earlier.
What? Did I mix up pescadology with botolony? Do you suppose that this could be a Klingon. I've only seen one of them before, see comments:
Originally it seemed that I shot everything but the flowers at Denver Botanic gardens. I decided to make a series of some of my showy botanic shots for a series. I followed some of the paths scattered about the Denver Botanic Gardens but I found this inside the pavilion where they have jungle (Jungle Jim just jumped me) plantings. I am now posting more of my botanical series after my extended series of garden environmental shot series. I still have lots of garden shots to edit. Some at a time.
This shows my series change. Well, at least this is some of the jumping color I snapped. Next?
This is yet another from an early summer eDDie trek to the Denver Botanic Gardens. I have passed it untold times but never invested my time or ponied up the entrance fee. This shouts that upkeep at the gardens is far from free, but eDDie bought a season pass so I did another round of sponge bobbing at the right price. Boy, this place is loaded with distractions that were made for me! ...and, did I ever get distracted.
Trekkers and lookie-loos packed and poked every path and display making clean shots more difficult. There were plants, displays and art in the park everywhere, keeping me abuzz and focusing in to removing background peeps. This shows that I actually got to botanic growies sooner or later. When will I change interests in another series like I usually do? As you can see from my steam, I make treks all over the place, gathering new captures as I can.
Since the Denver Botonic Gardens trek, I have made more treks with eDDie especially to the hills. At least I was able to snag a load of shots on that mellow day. I filled my film card for the first time ever. OK, I was tapped and all in by the time it was filled.
Quercus Ilex is one of the symbol of the Biological Reserve of Campanarios de Azaba and, more in general, of the Dehesa (the environment that characterize the western part of the peninsula iberica).
In this picture one of the greatest Quercus of Campanarios de Azaba.

Here are some iris that are far less subtle then the Colorado columbines. More edited captures for my new series from my trek with eDDie following some of the paths scattered about the Denver Botanic Gardens, Flowers fringing paths. Here is a patch of really patriotic country flags. Irises are easily grown everywhere on the flats. Egad, what a real load of garden shots I captured. Maybe some more.
Well, this extends more of my new series. Well, at least this has some of the better color I snapped. What insects are these guy inviting? Next?

After the Denver Botonic Gardens trek, I was tapped and all in by the time my card was filled although I had another in the car.
It seems that I shot everything but the flowers at Denver Botanic gardens. There is still time to change course after looking at my load of sequestered unedited captures from my trek with eDDie. While following some of the paths scattered about the Denver Botanic Gardens, I found many spots outside the pavilion where they had flowers fringing paths. Here are some columbines alongside other ground plantings. Columbines are easily grown outside in this area. It looks like that I am getting closer to botanical series after my extended series of garden environment shots. Egad, I still have a real load of garden shots to edit. Some at a time; some at a time.
I supposed I ought to edit some of the flowers that cover Denver's gardens before too darn long. Well, this shows some as a change up. Well, at least this is some of the color I snapped away. Next?

Looks like these stamen are really horny and showing off their masculinity in this yellow columbine. These flowers are common around here. Often, people rip Columbine blue columbine off from the hugh country and plant them in their back yards. They turn yellow soon enough. Were they stressed at high altitude? Perhaps but I prefer them up at altitude.

It seems that I shot plenty of growies and flowers at Denver Botanic gardens. Thus the edited captures and new series from my trek with eDDie. While following some of the paths scattered about the Denver Botanic Gardens, I found many spots outside the pavilion where they had flowers fringing paths. Here is a patch of Colorado columbines brought in from the hig country. Columbines are easily grown everywhere in this area but high country blue columbines fade to yellow on the flats. This one has already lost luster. I guess that is why they are so precious when found in the high country. Snap pictures and leave them alone at altitude. Transplants won't work anyway. My dad tried and tried. Egad, I still have a real load of garden shots to edit. Maybe a few more.

After the Denver Botonic Gardens trek, I was tapped and all in by the time my card was filled.
As long as I found more flowers from those left in my unedited captures, I am offering a flower series. There are more. This change to a new series comes after looking at my load of sequestered unedited captures from my trek with eDDie. While following some of the paths scattered about the Denver Botanic Gardens, I found many spots outside the pavilion where they had flowers fringing paths. This is certainly a showy take of a planting beside the path. It looks like that I am getting closer to botanical series after my extended series of garden environment shots. Egad, I still have a real load of garden shots to edit. Some at a time; some at a time... after this tribute to Andy Griffith.
I always supposed I ought to edit some of the flowers that cover Denver's gardens before too darn long. Well, this shows some of my change up. Well, at least this is some of the color I snapped away. Next?

One of these guys must be Sid Fishes. These guys have not gotten much purchase yet and they seem to be just the average instead of fancy polloi and new. After following some of the paths that are scattered about the Denve Botanic Gardens, I found a spot where they were watering, a good thing on the Colorado plains. It's clear that pool in furnishing some life in this rock and one crusty branch, garden. They especially like water plants at the Denver Botanical Gardens. Here some fringe the pool. It looks like that I am getting closer to botanical, and fish, shots finally. Egad, I have a real load of garden shots to edit. There are over 200 snaps in the directory.
So I followed the original path and in my wanderings, I mostly found loads of people. I suppose I ought to snap more of the biotonics that cover Denver's gardens. Well, this shows some green as a change up. Always the question is whether this is simply art or making visitors head for the John themselves? Well, at least this is green and I snapped away. Next?
This snap is yet another from a recent eDDie trek, this time down to the Denver Botanic Gardens. I have passed untold times but never invested my time or ponied up the entrance fee. This path shouts that upkeep here is far from free, but eDDie bought a season pass so I did another round of sponge bobbing at the right price. Boy, this place is loaded with distractions that were made for me! ...and, did I get distracted. Art in the park indeed.
Trekkers and lookie-loos poked every path and display. There were plants, displays and art everywhere, keeping me abuzz and focusing in to removing background peeps. I expect that I will actually get to botanic growies sooner or later. When will I change interests in this series like I usually do?
Since the Denver Botonic Gardens trek, I have made more treks and another with eDDie to the Rockies. At least I was able to snag a load of shots on that mellow day. I filled my film card for the first time ever. OK, I was tapped by the time it was filled.
This mamma's 'lings sprung the coop and were paddling left and right. Now where did they go? I already loaded one shot of her searching the pond. This shot rolls over to critters who've established their base at the Bionic Gardens... and just when I I got a series of the botanicals! Boy, this female mallard has a good kick and is lucky not to be a goose. Denver just concluded the cleanup of over a thousand park geese to feed the poor at only a hundred grand. I'm selling my Thanksgiving meal ticket for cash outside the gardens. .
Did she look over behind the reeds? No wonder, looking at this pool, they charge an entry fee for everyone, even Denverites. I wonder if they have have to feed the water fowl? I don't see any standing corn fields among the high rise housing. but maybe they feed mostly on visitors' leftovers. The ducks get better feed than the American poor.
After following some of the paths that are scattered about the Denver Botanic Gardens, I found a cool spot with a load of water, a good thing on the Colorado plains. It's clear that the pool furnished a good water garden. Folks especially like water plantings at the Denver Botanical Gardens.
So I followed the original path and in my wanderings, I mostly found loads of people. This shows a change up from earlier snaps.
Down another path. I returned to more of my Denver Botanic Gardens series and my quest for the unusual with one of my best shots. This is a great spot to regather some energy, consider the plantings then to press on as long as it is not possible to shoot the rest of the possibilities at the Bionic. Time and pressure. I better keep walking. Mow, where did that eDDie and his camera get to?
I've seen these things everywhere along paths on display in the Rockies. Boy can seating really be at handy spots. Egad, how can anyone decide which way any of the Botanic Garden's paths is heading? I better poke onward and see what pops up. Maybe eDDie; the day is stretching on.
eDDie wasn't over over at McIntosh nut maybe somewhere here.
This is another cool-ish spot at the Gardens. It's chilly today; otherwise, I could otherwise be sitting in Pruett's Alaska and breathing methane as the forests burn?
On garden day, the sun remained softly obscured and it remained reasonably cool before our recent temp blow up and this shot caught my eye. Egad, I ended up with a real load of Denver garden shots to edit with over 200 snaps in the directory, let alone for everything else in my massive stash. Pictures everywhere and not a single Canada goose infiltrator seen in this Denver park. Unlike Largemont.

Since the Denver Bo-tonic Gardens trek, I have made more treks and another with eDDie around the Rockies. At least I was able to snag a load of shots on that mellow day. I filled my film card for the first time ever. OK, I was tapped by the time; time took wings.
I returned to my Denver Botanic Gardens series and my quest for the unusual with a couple of pine shots, This one a real hanger and shows the tenacity of life in its least. Surprise, surprise, no telling what this pine might turn into but it surely found a spot of dirt in a crack that's bound to split wider. Time and pressure. Time and pressure.
I've seen this everywhere on display in the Rockies. Often that's the life that grows the strongest in the long run. Egad, how can anyone decide which way it is heading? I'll stick with this series again but my attention always wanders and may switch soon enough for more relief. Last week's"C-temps" would be better for shooting water revelers over at McIntosh Lake instead.
This is another cool-ish spot at the Gardens, a good thing at the time on the Colorado plains as temps hit the Big C today and I sit typing in front of the fan. It's not really that bad; I could otherwise be sitting in Pruett's Alaska and breathing methane as the forests burn?
That day the sun remained softly obscured and it remained reasonably cool before our recent temp blow up and this squirrely shot caught my eye. Egad, I ended up with a real load of Denver garden shots to edit with over 200 snaps in the directory, let alone for everything else in my massive stash. Pictures everywhere and not a single Canada goose infiltrator seen in a Denver park.

Here is an all green extension to my Denver Botanic Gardens series and my quest for the unusual, here are more of your daily greens. Here's a shot retrieved from within the shadows. As usual, I can't decide which plants these are. I'll stick with this green series again but my attention may wander and I'll switch soon enough for another change. I found a load of my old captures and might take a shot at improving some of my old edits for posterity.
That's right, I have more! As a ethno-biologistic type, I need to look up these species in Google to find them. I had to go slug shutter speeds to shoot into this deep green. Now this snap this a companion shot to Fernwood.
This is another cool spot at the Gardens, a good thing at the time on the Colorado plains as temps creep slowly toward mimicing fall. It's not really that bad as Pruett releases his hold on the valley. Amazon forestry anyone?
That day the sun remained softly obscured and it remained reasonably cool before our later temps blew up. This big greenie shot caught my eye. Egad, I ended up with a real load of Denver garden shots to edit with many snaps in the directory, let alone for everything else in my massive stash. Pictures everywhere and not a single Canada goose infiltrator seen in this Denver park.
I have made more treks with and without eDDie around our Rockies while pounding away at my genealogy project. At least I was able to snag a load of shots on that mellow day. I filled my film card for the first time ever. OK, I was tapped by the time it was filled anyway.

Now we're getting somewhere. After following some of the paths that are scattered about the Denver Botanic Gardens, I found a spot where they were watering, a good thing on the Colorado plains. It's clear that these cascading plants like their cascading water in this cascading rock garden. They especially like water plants at the Denver Botanical Gardens.
Since the Denver Botonic Gardens trek, I have made more treks and another with eDDie yesterday to the hills. At least I was able to snag a load of shots on that mellow day. I filled my film carsd for the first time every. OK, I was tapped by the time it was filled.
I figure that Arnie Schwartzennegger gave that title especially to me to butcher. I figure that it's mine now but it surely fits my concept. These hasta plantings certainly jump with handsprings of color, even without an orange hasta in tribute to the idiotocracy, Arnie. This is a multi-colored group that seems willing to exist together. These guys can be found in shady gardens all over the territory. These hasta surely don't need flowers to be showy especially when in a grouping like this. Someone must pay attetion to all the various plant needs and wants around here in order to maximize the displays. Dillon, Bob Zimmerman, said it best, "You know what you want, but I know what you need." I like this cluster.
This is in tribute to eDDie who traveled from Loveland especially to reboot my butt even if I re-engage somewhat slowly. We are largely without e-mail with eDDie on FaceBroke and me, refusing to be a Trumpanzie or Zucker... Maya Angelou: When someone shows you what they are, believe them!
Originally it seemed that I shot everything but the flowers at Denver Botanic gardens. I decided to make a series of some of my showy botanic shots for another series. I followed many of the paths scattered about the Denver Botanic Gardens, even eDDie once in a while, and I found this along one of them but then I was starting to sag. This perked my up again. I still have lots of unedited garden shots hanging around. Some at a time. Some at a time.
Well, this is some of the jumping color I snapped. It's loaded.
I spotted this pavilion across the Denver Botonic pond a few shots back and boy, I am ready for a break about now after relentless shooting and my two recent rounds of editing my finds. This looks like a shady and quiet place to sit and rest in the madhouse of activity. That vine will really darken the pavilion when it fully covers the trellis.
There's not a breath of wind here either, even at at 1/25 second. This could be a hanging vine from the Hanging Gardens of Babylon although they were in Nineveh and never in Babylon. What other old Mesopotamian stories did the Bible completely butcher? All of them? Nineveh was largely destroyed by IS and of course, Boy George Bush. Ahh, what's another war or two? It's only paid by the poor and remaining middle class in America and dodged by the well-heeled. Great religions spark greatest of wars, sometimes cults in only one religion will do just fine to spark great wars. Ahh, the environment is rendering little room for wars over fossil fuels.
This is yet another view at the Denver Botanic Gardens I liked. I end up with all the off-shoots. Plantings are everywhere at the Denver Bionic Gardens. I may yet have some images of flowers I shot at the gardens.
After following some of the paths that are scattered about the Denver Botanic Gardens, I found a cool spot with a load of water, a good thing on the Colorado plains. It's clear that the pool furnished is good for water gardens. They especially like water plantings at the Denver Botanical Gardens. It looks like I am getting closer to botanical, and fish, shots like this as I work. Egad, I have a real load of garden shots to edit with over 200 snaps in the directory, let alone for everything else in my massive stash.

Since the Denver Botonic Gardens trek, I have made more treks and another with eDDie to the Rockies. At least I was able to snag a load of shots on that mellow day. I filled my film card for the first time ever. OK, I was tapped by the time it was filled anyway.
I'm officially apologizing for the last title. I already posted a couple of views of this scene and the koi at the Denver Botanic Gardens but I thought I'd add a scene of the entire setting and the work the conservators did in building their various and well-realized settings. They are everywhere you turn. No wonder they charge an entry fee for everyone, even Denverites.
I bet they have to feed these koi but maybe they feed mostly on visitors' Cheetos? After following some of the paths that are scattered about the Denver Botanic Gardens, I found a spot of heavy watering, a good thing on the Colorado plains. It's clear that the watercourse and pool are furnishing life in this rock garden. They especially like water plantings at the Denver Botanical Gardens. It looks like I am getting closer to botanical, and fish, shots like this. Egad, I have a real load of garden shots to edit with over 200 snaps in the directory, let alone for everything else in my massive stash.
So I followed the original path and in my wanderings, I mostly found loads of prople. This shows a change up from earlier snaps. Always the question is whether this is simply art or making visitors head for the John? Well, at least this is green and I snapped away. Next?

I left off my Denver Botanic Gardens series and my quest for the unusual with a shot of mugo pines on the shore. Surprise, surprise, I found a species of pine that's brand new to me... but look at it. It's clearly a lumbering pine just in from the chill of the northwest. Here's a shot down into the depths from which it is growing AND groping. Egad, how can anyone decide which way it is heading? I'll stick with this series again but my attention always wanders and may switch soon enough for more relief. This "C-temp" day would be the day to shoot water revelers over at McIntosh Lake instead.
That's right, I have more! As a ethno-biologistic type, I need to look up this ent species subset in Google to find the exact source of it's lumbering. It's not from the Hanging Gardens of Babylon because it's right side up and not hanging but I had to go to 1/20th of a second to shoot into this black hole. I had to shoo a proselytizer from my scene. He was asking for the straight truth from this crooked, crooked ent oracle about Epstein and his favorite talent cruiser, Drumpfster from the Dumpster. Does MSB have a couple more reservations and enough spare bone saws?
This is another cool spot at the Gardens, a good thing at the time on the Colorado plains as temps hit the Big C today and I sit typing in front of the fan. It's not really that bad; I could otherwise be sitting in Pruett's Alaska and breathing methane as the forests burn?
That day the sun remained softly obscured -and it remained reasonably cool before our recent temp blow up and this squirrely shot caught my eye. Egad, I ended up with a real load of Denver garden shots to edit with over 200 snaps in the directory, let alone for everything else in my massive stash. Pictures everywhere and not a single Canada goose infiltrator seen in a Denver park.

I'm appologizing again for the Koi title. However, this shot rolls over to other critters who've established their base at the Bionic Gardens... and just when I thought I managed a smooth reflection shot of the blank overcast and skyline beyond! Boy, this female mallard has a good kick and is lucky not to be a goose. Denver just concluded the cleanup of over a thousand park geese to feed the poor at only a hundred grand. I'm selling my Thanksgiving meal ticket for cash outside the stadium.
I bet the duck is searching its geeklings but we already sent them to DC. Did she look over behind the reeds? No wonder, looking at this pool, they charge an entry fee for everyone, even Denverites.
I wonder if they have have to feed the water fowl? I don't see any standing corn fields anong the high rise housing. but maybe they feed mostly on visitors' Cheetos? The duck gets better feed than the American poor. After following some of the paths that are scattered about the Denver Botanic Gardens, I found a cool spot with a load of water, a good thing on the Colorado plains. I followed some paths at the Denver Botanic Gardens and I found a spot where a stone wall was crumbling down the slope. Egad, this could use some serious attention! A slip could happen on this shattered riprap. It's clear that this wall is disintegating and the plants aren't holding the crumbling rock wall back. Those cave men could slip on the shale while looking at flowers at the Gardens and scouting bathrooms...
This must be the first of my edits showing some plantings at the Denver Botonic Gardens among the curious I found everywhere about.
So I followed the original path and in my wandering, I mostly found loads of people and started looking for the bathroom myself. I suppose I ought to snap some of the biotonics that cover Denver's gardens before the series stretches too too far. Well, this too shows some green as a change up. Always the question is whether this is art among the plants? If so, it took some serious work. Well, at least this has green and I snapped away. Next?
Trekkers and lookie-loos poked every path and display. There were plants, displays and art everywhere, keeping me abuzz at removing background peeps. I expect that I will actually get to botanic growies sooner or later. When will I change interests in this series like I usually do?

They say to follow the path. I usually do that but sometimes I follow my natural wanderings. This path isn't yellow brick but begs to be followed... somewhere... but where?
