A filter experiment on Boscombe Pier. Using a Lee Little Stopper to blur any people moving around, a Lee Sky Blue to bring out the detail in the sky and a Lee Sunset filter (upside down) to warm up the wooden boards.

A beautiful evening for some long exposure photography. I recently bought a new tripod so I thought about giving this a try today

Both Joe and myself took off for Boscombe this weekend and headed down to the beach. It was quite a breezy day and made for difficult long exposure shots but I managed a couple of good shots. Even though we were both photographing the same things we both found a different perspective to what we found interesting to photograph.

Taken this morning whilst walking the dog along the seafront. For early February, it was pleasantly cold and sunny. These brightened up my day and I hope they brighten up yours.

Long exposure using a Pro ND1000 10 stopper.

Hoping for a sunrise under the pier, this is as good as it got. I did take this pier from several angles but the light had gone by that point to get anything more interesting, less sand and more ocean next time....

An occasional visit to this pier with the winter times probably one of the best times, this one last November...

This pier is loctaed in Boscombe at the east side of Bournemouth, it was refurbished in 2008 and won 'Pier of the Year' in 2010. There have been several issues with the pier in recent years including hairline fractures of each of the concrete support piles plus lights that leak rainwater shorting out the electrics. I think the Victorians may have done a better job building piers.

Another shot from Saturday Morning's visit to Boscombe Beach in Dorset.

This was taken shortly before sunrise and it wasn't looking that promising that we'd get any colour, but we did end up with a tiny bit a few moments after this was taken.

This is the type of sunrise I've been after for a while at this location. Lots of drama and nice colour.

Low tide works well here to pick up the reflections and sand texture.

A nice start to the week :)

A lovely day with sunshine & a few showers.

Last Friday morning I ventured up to Boscombe in Dorset to shoot sunrise at the pier.

I'd had this shot in mind ever since I first saw a photo of this pier and although it's nothing original I really love the symmetry of it, albeit ruined slightly by the minigolf equipment on the left.

I always visioned a nice pink sky in the background for this shot and luckily the sky was clear as a bell with a nice purple/pink haze along the horizon giving me exactly what I wanted.

The actual sunrise itself didn't amount to much, what with the clear sky so I didn't bother capturing it, but I did get a couple of photos from that morning which is a bonus.

Structure on Boscombe Beach not sure why it is there.

16 stop ND firecrest filter used, at this time the sun was behind the clouds as it would have been too much glare on the ocean otherwise.

Not having done Long Exposures in recent months a great subject matter for practice.

Last one from boscombe

Captured New Years morning. Ventured out as the sky was lighting up and headed towards Boscombe Pier with the sky getting ever more spectacular. here the whole sky had the clouds lit up, A two minute exposure getting the clouds to streak and at this time of morning no people to worry about and at this time of year the gates are locked and managing to fit the lens through the bars was enough... I did think about taking out the trash cans and as you can see I didn't mind that tey were there.

Kase 10 stop nd filter used.

Yesterday morning I headed to Boscombe Beach in Dorset for sunrise, meeting up with Scott Lovegrove Photography and Tom Ormerod Photography.

Despite the weather report the previous night saying it was going to be partly cloudy, we arrived to a lot more cloud than expected. Still, we wasn't put off and headed down to the beach.

On the way I stopped off at the pier and got a a blue hour shot while the lights were still on.

I love the symmetry of this shot, there is a small crazy golf course situated on the left hand side but I've removed that in photoshop to keep the symmetrical aspect of the shot.

I Have had a pretty frantic week so far so thought I would post something soothing.
