Thank you for taking time to comment, fave and look at my work. I really appreciate.

I know this macro is far from perfect ,but the species on this shot is a rare one in the Netherlands . I decided to make a quick handheld shot , before it will fly away !!!

Kenmerken imago

lichaam-->metaalglanzend blauw.

lichaam-->metaalkleurig groen.

Kenmerken.

segmenten: onderzijde S8-10-->grijswit ('achterlicht').

vleugels: groen tot groenbruin-->iets doorzichtig.

Vertoont zwerfgedrag.

A spot rich in water in Tierpark Nordhorn

The forest stream damselfly can be found almost all over Europe. It is quite strict about its habitat. The forest stream damselfly prefers to stay at natural, slow-flowing (forest) streams with very good water quality. As if that were not enough, the surrounding landscape also preferably consists of a variety of wet grasslands (marigold grasslands) and wet roughs with shrubs. It is not a sun worshipper: the damselfly especially likes shady spots.

Beautiful Demoiselle almost got away but with a little patience he got his picture taken at last

The banded demoiselles are quite common along flowing water of reasonable quality. They are much scarcer in the west of the Netherlands, but recently they have appeared in the Biesbosch. Recently they have been seen in more and more places in the west, including in North Holland. Thanks to the improvement of water quality in waterways. So things are going well for this species, which is particularly notable for its butterfly-like flight near streams. They need oxygen-rich water to reproduce properly. You have the best chance along streams where the water flows well. Look for them especially in places where the sun shines on the water and vegetation.

Bosbeekjuffer - Calopteryx virgo - Massenhoven 2020

My son, Daniel, accompanied me on my first visit to the Mjällådalen nature reserve, not very far from the town of Härnösand.

While the weather was a bit on the cold side and the mosquitoes were abundant, it still turned out to be a great afternoon.

At one point, while we were navingating through the undergrowth from the path and out to the river, we scared up a couple of male blue demoiselles (Calopteryx virgo) and with a little sneaking, I managed this shot with the 100 mm when one of them had landed somewhat nearby.

I showed the processed shot to Daniel (who is fourteen) and his reaction was "Ooooh, vibrant boi!" so that is how I think of it now.

I managed to get this male beautiful demoiselle (Calopteryx virgo) to land on my arm and also somehow stay still enough for me to get two shots from the same angle which enabled me to focus stack them and end up with eye, body and wing in focus.

The detail on the compound eye came out absolutely marvellous and I am so happy with one. Zoom in yourself and you'll see why.

Here is another female beautiful demoiselle (Calopteryx virgo) from July of 2019 when I met a whole bunch of these which were very friendly near the Nedre Dammen pond at Stensjödal in Tyresta National Park.

If you're thinking this metallic beauty looks unusually in focus, it is because I managed to take four shots without it moving in between and then stack them into one shot using Zerene Stacker. Quite pleased with how it turned out actually.

This is a female beautiful demoiselle (Calopteryx virgo) found at Åva-Stensjödal in Tyresta National Park, Sweden.

Compare it to the male here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/48323333002/ - which do you think look the prettier?

Wetenschappelijk: Calopteryx virgo

Scientific name: Calopteryx virgo

The colours of the beautiful demoiselle (Calopteryx virgo) shimmer in metallic green and blue, but they also have different hues between specimens. This one, resting on a log near Stensjödal in Tyresta National Park is probably the deepest blue one I've encountered so far.

Can you just imagine what if would feel like to stroke your fingertip across one of those wings?

The majority of damselfly species in Sweden are blue. Or the males are blue and the females oar greyish white.

And then there is this one: The large red damsel (Pyrrhosoma nymphula). I was actually out looking for demoiselles when this one flew by and decided to take a break right in front of me.

Unfortunately I had the MP-E65mm on the camera at that time and this is as far away as it can focus so I wasn't able to fit all of it in frame.

Saturday, I went for a good hike for about 25 km along the Geul, a small fast flowing river in our environment.

Here, the beautiful- and banded demoiselles have their natural habitat. My goal was to capture these beauties in flight, a difficult job to do.

In the picture, you can see the tail of a female, who probably drowned.

Still, the males were willing to mate and kept flying around her.

This was the chance to get them in flight. Pumped up the ISO to 1250, and here I got a shutterspeed of 1/5000, which seemed to be fast enough.

Very glad with this one!!!

Handheld shot.

Thanks for the kind replies and comments on previous uploads.

Grtz. Jurgen.

This one came out great. Not only is the female beautiful demoiselle (Calopteryx virgo), well, beautiful - but the way the lines of the fern and her wings and body work together looks very attracitve.
