Adding some colour to the stream with this one ....... a motion blur image taken on the A494 just north of Chester.
The elegant bridge carries the Chester Millennium Greenway, a footpath and cycleway from the city centre towards Shotton and The Wirral / North Wales - if you look carefully you can see the Welsh dragon sign on the bridge. The shot was captured in Wales just a few hundred yards from the border with England.
Originally uploaded 9 years ago and now deleted, this latest incarnation is a rework. And yes, it was taken from the passenger seat!

The very last glimpse of sunlight reflects off the former Conrail leaders fresh paint.
Appena superata la cittadina di Kufstein la linea ferroviaria per Monaco prosegue sulla riva settentrionale dell'Inn verso Kiefersfelden, la prima municipalità bavarese oltre il confine.

Looking North towards Garrigill near the County Durham -Cumbria border. Polarising filter did a good job darkening the sky!
Whale biologist Hal Whitehead defines a breach as when more than 40% of the animal is above water, whereas a lunge is when less than 40% appears. I remember that this adult Humpback Whale dropped back into the water straight after this shot, and I'd guess about 40% is on show, so this is a borderline breach. You can see water pouring out of its mouth (especially on the far side) and cascading down its back. I think the top of its pectoral fin is just visible if you zoom in, though it looks oddly absent. That misty area just left of its mouth is actually its breath as it quickly dissipates in the next pictures in the sequence. This was taken at Gorda Banks off the southern tip of the Baja peninsula.
Borderline
I am happiest watching from the shadows
This is where I spend my time now
Such as it is, this half time
This ghost of a life
Coveting the light closer
That I have always yearned for
Still just out of my reach
From my self imposed barriers
That hold me here
Vainly searching out the sun
To feel human again
This beautiful area that originally formed part of the Wilmington Priory in East Sussex, UK, has a special atmosphere, but sometimes there is a sadness in the shadows.

Across the Borderline - Ry Cooder
www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDeP0GLjeAg
There's a place where I've been told
Every street is paved with gold
And it's just across the borderline
And when it's time to take your turn
Here's a lesson that you must learn
You could lose more than you'll ever hope to find
When you reach the broken promised land
And every dream slips through your hands
Then you'll know that it's too late to change your mind
'Cause you've paid the price to come so far
Just to wind up where you are
And you're still just across the borderline
Up and down the Rio Grande
A thousand footprints in the sand
Reveal a secret no one can define
The river flows on like a breath
In between our life and death
Tell me, who's the next to cross the borderline?
En la triste oscuridad
Hoy tenemos que cruzar
Este río que nos llama más allá
But hope remains when pride is gone
And it keeps you moving on
Calling you across the borderline
This is a make-shift fence that is frozen in Winters morning light. I captured this just outside Kayenta Arizona.

The River Luce or to give it her official name The Main Water of Luce marks the border between Dumfries & Galloway and Strathclyde and for a while as the Ayrliner rail tour climbed the 1 in 44 towards Chirmorie summit with what appeared to be only one Class 20 working it was a borderline event if the tour would make it over the top. The moorland tranquility was shattered by the sound of a single class 20 at full throttle hauling load 8 plus a 47 plus a dead class 20 travelling at less than 10 mph until just before this point when 20107 throttled back and reapplied the power in unison with 20096.
This is the tour en route to Girvan as the 1530 departure from Stranraer.
