Shoeshiner or boot polisher is an occupation in which a person polishes shoes with shoe polish.
They are often known as shoeshine boys because the job is traditionally that of a male child. Other synonyms are bootblack and shoeblack. While the role is deprecated in much of Western civilization, shining shoes is an important source of income for many children and families throughout the world.

Bootblacks and its customers under colorful umbrellas, in a street of Providencia, Santiago, Chile
Photographer: Arthur Rothstein, December 1937, Union Square, New York, USA
Union Square is a historic intersection and surrounding neighborhood in Manhattan, New York City, United States, located where Broadway and the former Bowery Road – now Fourth Avenue – came together in the early 19th century. Its name denotes that "here was the union of the two principal thoroughfares of the island".

Something you don't see much any more: Shoeshiner or boot polisher is an occupation in which a person cleans and buffs shoes and then applies a waxy paste to give a shiny appearance and a protective coating. They are often known as shoeshine boys because the job was traditionally done by a male child. Other synonyms are bootblack and shoeblack.
This image was captured in 2011 while on a visit to San Francisco. On Market Street In the business district, there used to be many stands where a customer could get his or her shoes shined while on a lunch hour and return to the office all bright and shiny. Well-shined shoes always make the wearer feel special.
Aamir is the bootblack along one of the streets leading to the Jain Temple in Bikaner. He asked me to send him the photo. But his work place has no name, the streets often do not have names, or are not known. We noted the district and the textile shop close, but is not enough. I will bring it to him in person, I hope.

This is the shops section of the All Star Arena precinct. It features a cafe on the corner with dance studio above, a florist, a book store and some terrace houses.
The florist building was heavily influenced by one of the buildings in Agata Baśkiewicz's Bootblack street.
All the buildings have interiors but I haven't had a chance to photograph them yet. Will post when I get around to it.

1824AD, 9th February, Warren's Blacking factory, 30 Hungerford Stairs, The Strand, London. A young Charles Dickens starts work labeling pots of bootblack.
The short time spent in this work is thought to have given Charles Dickens inspiration for his later work, in particular Oliver Twist.
By chance my oldest son is studying the Victorians at school and suggested this build to go in my display!

Bootblack: Of course I can make an exception, sir! He leaves his boots with me to be delivered to a house near the port. It's the only one with a red door.
Regis: Come now, boy. We already know what he looks like. He's a friend of ours. What we need to know is where to find him.
Bootblack: I'm not sure I can tell you that. It would breach my client's trust!
