The Five-lined Skink (Plestiodon fasciatus) is a unique character for a number of reasons. For one, mom five-lined skinks are attentive egg mothers. While other lizards dig a hole, drop eggs into it, bury them, and leave, momma skink lays her eggs and then sits with them. And sits with them. And curls her tail around them protectively. And sits with them some more. This provides them with a modicum of protection against predation. Once they hatch, she bids them adieu with a wave of her clawed fingers ... and eats any unhatched eggs to regain her strength!
Be sure to prep your turkey...
wash and pat dry... loosely stuff cavity...truss...rub on seasonings... pop in the oven...

This is a landscape version of the Gargoyle in the Grotto post from last week. I shot about 30 photos down inside this little grotto. I was concerned that the dynamic range was to extreme to capture but decided to give it a go. This is a 9 exposure blend created to bring out the details in the shadows so that the "creepy" little Hob Goblin face is a little more visible in the right center of the photo. I had to work the crap out of this image. Hope you like it. :)
Thank you for taking the time to visit and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! Have a great week. :)
If you have any questions about this photo or about photography in general, I will do my best to help, just post a comment or send me a Flickr mail and I will respond as quickly as possible.

i was driving on a dirty road looking for birds when i saw a shape at my right.
i'm used to find owls that are very mimetic and cannot be search easily with a sight.
the best thing to do with all the wild animals is to be used to their shape.
so i stopped the car and i came back...nothing there...but i decided to wait a bit and after a minute ...
peekaboo!!! a curious spotted eagle owl (bubo africanus) rose from behind some rocks.
i really love these birds!!

Peek a Boo Slot Canyon at the Grand Staircase National Monument, one of the many scenic highlights you can experience as a hiker in the Hole in the Rock Road area near Escalante, Utah.
In the late morning you have here indirect light, which brings the otherwise brownish canyon walls to light.

all of us wishing all of you a Happy New Year!
we had another earthquake this morning, a 5.4.
all my pictures on the wall are now askew. again.
This is my final Halloween post for this year with a photo from last year. I went by the same house yesterday, but their display is very modest compared last year's very impressive showing.
I have, obviously, slid a lot on this photo, but I do not remember what I did at the time.

... and Franki, that goes to you
It's been 5 years now, exactly to the day, that one of my photo buddies is gone. He forgot to look in the rearview mirror and didn't see the mortal danger...we miss him dearly.
The waterfall was our favorite spot. There was never a single dull moment thanks to Franki, he was the one who always brought value to our shared passion, photography, and camaraderie. Last time I was there doing LE's, I managed to get this photo.I didn't realize it until I was coming home and sitting at my desktop computer and looking at the large screen. Delicate branches waved like hands through a hole. I was sure and that was my first mind, it was Franki with a peek a boo. I felt a gentle shivering inside me.
Thanks for taking the time and looking at my photo, I appreciate it very much!
