A bit of decoding is necessary for this one. Our man sits outside the bar/restaurant of the local racecourse on Ladies Day, and while it's a madhouse inside, our lad has his own personal island of calm on the other side of the window. He's wearing solid colours (red and green are the colours of County Mayo) while the women wear wild multi-coloured prints. The umbrella is a reflection from a nearby bookmaker's stall.
It seems that there are as many women working the betting stands as men nowadays. I imagine that with all of the bookmakers offering much the same odds, a friendly face might be the deciding factor to those looking to place a bet.

Le Bœuf sur le toit, Op. 58 (English title, The Ox on the Roof: The Nothing-Doing Bar) is a surrealist ballet made on a score composed by Darius Milhaud, which was in turn strongly influenced by Brazilian popular music. The title is that of an old Brazilian tango, one of close to 30 Brazilian tunes (choros) quoted in the composition. The piece was originally to have been the score of a silent Charlie Chaplin film (Cinéma-fantaisie for violin and piano).
Its transformation into a ballet (Pantomime Farce) was the making of the piece, with a scenario by Jean Cocteau, stage designs by Raoul Dufy, and costumes by Guy-Pierre Fauconnet. There is no real story to speak of, but a sequence of scenes based on music inspired by Brazil, a country in which the composer spent two years during World War I. The stage set is that of a bar frequented by a number of characters: a bookmaker, a dwarf, a boxer, a woman dressed in men's clothing, a policeman who is decapitated by the blades of an overhead fan before he is revived, and a number of others. The first actors were in fact clowns from the Medrano circus, the Fratellini. The choreography was deliberately very slow, in marked contrast to the lively and joyful spirit of the music.
The premiere was given in February 1920 at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and comprised, besides the ballet, Adieu New York by Georges Auric, Cocardes by Francis Poulenc and Trois petites pièces montées by Erik Satie.

La mia amica Riley è stata la prima della sua famiglia a frequentare l'università. I suoi antenati irlandesi erano poveri e nessuno aveva mai ricevuto un'istruzione superiore. Un americano che vive a Berlino era malato di leucemia e di aids. I medici hanno fatto un trapianto di midollo per curare la leucemia usando le cellule staminali di un donatore sano. L'operazione è riuscita e la leucemia è scomparsa. Ma anche il virus dell'hiv ha abbandonato il corpo del paziente: da due anni si è liberato di entrambe le malattie. Per te, Leone, prevedo una versione psicologica di questa doppia guarigione. Nelle prossime settimane la cura di una sofferenza ne guarirà inaspettatamente anche un'altra.

Sulla tua scala del successo manca un piolo. Immagino che tu lo consideri un problema. In questo modo non potrai salire un passo alla volta, ma dovrai fare un gigantesco salto verso l'alto. Le idee creative, le nuove scoperte e le invenzioni proliferarono. Te lo dico, Capricorno, perché ho il sospetto che tu stia per entrare nella tua personale età dei lumi. Ma forse non avrai bisogno della caffeina per alimentarla, perché le energie cosmiche complotteranno per ispirare i tuoi processi mentali.

I leader del Gruppo di supporto dei Pesci mi hanno chiesto di darti una pacca sulla spalla, e già che ci sono anche un amichevole calcio nel sedere, per festeggiare la tua promessa di abbandonare la zona di sicurezza. Sono un po' preoccupati che tu possa innamorarti così tanto di questa nuova riserva di coraggio da non trovare la forza di usarla fino in fondo. Per favore, dimostragli che si sbagliano. E facci vedere in che modo un animo sensibile e romantico cerca l'avventura in un territorio vergine.
The building at 163 North Street in Brighton was erected in 1904 for an insurance company and has since been used as a branch by several banks and building societies. It now houses a bookmaker's shop. The distinctive pink granite Edwardian Baroque-style office, embellished with towers, decorative carvings and a landmark cupola, has been called "the most impressive building" on Brighton's main commercial thoroughfare. One of many works by prolific local architecture firm Clayton & Black, it has been described as their chef d'œuvre. Felt like something was about to kick off here - the man on the left was looking very intently at something out of shot across the road (not the woman, as someone else thought). It may have been the bookmakers shop.
I didn’t hang around to see what, if anything, happened.
This is by no means a Bookmaker toast.
It is a toast for book-makers, i.e. authors.
Toast with eggsalad, pickled cucumber, chives, Miguel Vergara Striploin from "my" local butchershop and Parmesan sauce on top.
Not bad for a lunch, home alone.

Commonly referred to as "Fram" by the locals, it is of Anglo-Saxon origin and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. It has a population of 3,114 at the 2001 census, increasing to 3,342 at the 2011 Census. Nearby villages include Earl Soham, Kettleburgh, Parham, Saxtead and Sweffling.Framlingham has a conservation area. The medieval Framlingham Castle is a major feature. The town is home to the summer arts festival Arts Framlingham, Framlingham Castle, the comprehensive secondary school Thomas Mills High School, the independent school Framlingham College, St Michael the Archangel church and Framlingham Town football club. It is also home to the two oldest working post office pillar boxes in the United Kingdom which date from 1856 and can be seen at Double Street and College Road. It is also home to one of the smallest houses in Britain, known as the "Check House". Converted into a two-storey residence of almost 29 square metres, the former bookmakers office is in the Mauldens Mill Estate in the town centre. The ground floor measures 6.1m x 2.2m. In 2006, Country Life magazine voted Framlingham the number one place to live in the country.

Bellewstown Racecourse was the venue for one of the biggest betting coups ever. In 1975 Barney Curley devised an elaborate scheme in which he wisely backed a highly unfancied racehorse he owned named Yellow Sam. His gamble paid off, costing Irish bookmakers £300,000 (the equivalent today of £2.5million).
He hoped that Yellow Sam’s starting price would be around 20–1, though Curley knew that if large sums of money were being placed on the horse, his price would promptly drop, thus significantly reducing the potential earnings. Consequently, he ensured that he would compete at the National Hunt race at Bellewstown — an obscure track with only one public telephone in the vicinity.
Countless accomplices of Curley were located in bookmakers across the country with between £50 and £300 in their possession. Curley then rang six or seven people who in turn rang 10 others, as he invested £15,000, virtually his entire savings, into the gamble.
25 minutes before the start of the race, in the ‘phone booth at Bellewstown a friend of Barney’s pretended he needed to ring a dying aunt, which persuaded others to allow him to use the ‘phone for half an hour, as bookies tried and failed to contact their counterparts in order to lay off their liabilities.
He was also famed for the work he did for his charity, Direct Aid For Africa, which he founded in 1996 and he devoted much of his life to building and maintaining schools and hospitals in Zambia.

I had to walk into town to the hospital to have an Aortic Aneurysm Screening so I took my camera with me. Yellow filter on camera. M1011874
The building designed by German architects Alfred Karr and Kurt Betge, built in 1930, is located at 43/45 Lāčplēša Street in Riga.
The building is one of the proofs of the development of democratic society in its time, an example of a good capital city workers' club with an extensive building programme. The building has meeting rooms, offices, shops, and apartments. The rich, lofty facade sculpture is realised in stucco. Relatively well preserved architectural details. Horizontal division predominates. The importance of the public spaces is emphasised by the distinctive fenestration on the ground two floors. Former House of Culture of the Printing Industry Workers.

Caught this epic showdown on a chilly Dublin street, where a Yamaha Tracer 9 was flexing its horsepower right in front of a Paddywagon Scania Irizar, ready to whisk tourists on a legendary Ireland tour. The Tracer 9, all sleek and snarling, looked like it was saying, “I’ve got the real power here—watch me zoom to Galway faster than you can say ‘leprechaun!’” But the Paddywagon, decked out in shamrock glory, just smirked with its “Paddy Power” vibes, ready to take on the Cliffs of Moher, Killarney, and Dingle in one epic loop. Who needs a bookmaker when you’ve got this much Paddy power on wheels?
I couldn’t help but chuckle imagining the Tracer 9 revving up for a race, only for the Paddywagon to honk back, “Pal, I’m carrying 50 tourists to the Glendalough—I’ve got the horsepower of their excitement!” The Yamaha might have the speed, but the Paddywagon’s got the stories—tales of Irish folklore that’d make even the Tracer’s engine purr with envy. In the background, the “Happy Fling House” sign seemed to cheer them on, as if Dublin itself was placing bets on who’d win this battle of the road titans. Any takers on this Paddy Power showdown?
This shot’s got it all—grit, green, and a whole lot of Irish spirit! The contrast between the Tracer 9’s raw energy and the Paddywagon’s promise of emerald adventures is pure magic. I can almost hear the bus driver cracking jokes about the motorbike’s “need for speed” while the Tracer rider dreams of cutting through the Irish countryside at 90 mph.

The Old Cobb & Co. Pub:
In 1915, after the new hotel was built on the opposite corner, the Cobb & Co Pub was turned into a general store. In 1925 the old building was demolished and a new store and cottage was built for Mr J.W. Sanphy and was called the Julia Creek Supply Sotre Ltd (Sanphy's Store).
In November 1944 a fire broke out in Grace Horton's cafe and the fire quickly spread to all the neighbouring buildings with contents completely destroyed. In 1959 Three SP bookmakers operared in Julia Creek; Roy Hampton, Jack Cramp, and Bluey Baker. Jack Cramp owned the SP Bookie Shop on this site, Gladie and Alf Mayo managed the store.
The Julia Creek Hotel:
The Charters Towers Metropole Hotel was purchased and relocated to the current site in Julia Creek, where it was renamed the Julia Creek Hotel.
This first Julia Creek Hotel burnt down and a second hotel was purchased from Charters Towers as a replacement.
This is the hotel that stands here today, recently renovated by a new Licensee and reopened after being closed for approximately two years.
