Two of the characters from Lynley Dodd's children's books featuring Hairy Maclary and friends that are part of a multi-piece sculpture on Tauranga's waterfront. Sculpted by Brigitte Wuest, assisted by modelmaker Marco Wuest. I read the books to my son when he was small and it's great to see the characters brought to life in this way.

A Mardi Gras float featuring Clifford the Big Red Dog travels down Royal Street during the Floral Parade, March 4, 2019, in Mobile, Alabama. The theme of this yearâs floral parade was âThrow Me a Book,â with 16 floats featuring classic characters from childrenâs books. Mobileâs first official Mardi Gras celebration was recorded in 1703. Mardi Gras originated as a French tradition of feasting and revelry before the austere Catholic Lent. Mardi Gras officially ends on Fat Tuesday. Lent begins the following day on Ash Wednesday.
