For the "Looking close... on Friday!" topic "Combination of Soft & Sharp"

I was cutting geranium flowers to make an indoor display ... and the combination of scissors and petals seemed to fit the topic 😊

Have a happy weekend, and stay safe!

I'm getting withdrawal symptoms as I haven't had time topic my camera up for a while. A few days ago I accidentally pulled up the poppy on the left, while weeding. It was a beautiful frilly flower and I really wanted to take a photo of it. It was gradually wilting but I didn't mind as I thought it would still look good. As soon as I picked it up it fell apart so I picked another couple of poppies to go with it...each poppy in a worse state of decay.

14/365: I bought the bias binding in a lovely little vintage craft shop in Melbourne, so it brings back wonderful memories. I've been wanting to use my bonsai scissors that I bought around Christmas time so put a few other bits on my suitcase to try to get my pic reasonably early in the day. It's another dull day here so there wasn't much chance of getting anything outside.

12/30: April 2019: A month in 30 pictures

15/52: The weekly/monthly challenge - Comfort zone - I am at my most comfortable doing still life, flatlays or macro so I guess I could have used any photo this week.

I love fresh flowers and recently signed up to a flower delivery service. The first delivery arrived today. They are beautiful so I felt they deserved to appear in a photo...well, probably more than one...I need to get my money's worth.

Edit: I've just been notified that changes are coming to the way I log into Flickr and to update my login now. This happened to a friend and she got locked out of her account for a while. I hope this won't happen but if it does that will explain if I am absent and can't post my daily pics for a while. Fingers crossed.

257/365: I know...another high key and more lavender. I set this up last night to save me thinking about something today as we are going away for the weekend. I am not likely to have internet access so will try to catch up when back.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

Day 76/365:

The muscari are springing up in the garden. I felt a bit bad snipping a few for a photo but will put them in water and maybe even get another photo to make me feel less guilty.

198/365: My friend's son bought me these gladioli for taking a parcel in for him. I certainly wasn't expecting such a generous gesture.

The title is from the (sixties) song Glad All Over by The Dave Clark Five.

I was deadheading the scabious and thought these were too pretty to just go on the compost. So here they are in a flat lay and I hope to get still more use from them. I made the seed packet and the tag.

I placed an orange film, from the Omni rainbow pack, in front of the lens to give it more of a vintage look.

Got to make the most out of these tulips so here they are again. I added a texture courtesy of Kerstin Frank, thank you for your generosity. www.flickr.com/photos/kerstinfrank-design/11855567076/in/...

I am already behind with commenting but I'm afraid I will probably get even more behind as we are going away tomorrow, for the weekend. We have a caravan (trailer to the non Brits) on the North Norfolk coast where it is an internet blackspot. Will try to get a pic taken before we go so I don't get too behind with posting as well as commenting.

56/365: A pretty unoriginal title but not much time for photography let alone thinking of titles. Although things are busy they are also pretty wonderful while we get to know our amazing new little person. So another post and run I'm afraid...I will get back when I am able.

Well, not as impossible as the legendary tangle that faced Alexander the Great - just a customary tangle of strips of paper from the shredder and pieces of ribbon that I keep for photography! When the tangle gets impossible I use the 'Alexander Technique' and simply use a small pair of bonsai scissors. ;o)

for the Smile on Saturday challenge "entangled"

HSoS !!

The term “Gordian knot,” commonly used to describe a complex or unsolvable problem, can be traced back to a legendary chapter in the life of Alexander the Great. As the story goes, in 333 B.C. the Macedonian conqueror marched his army into the Phrygian capital of Gordium in modern day Turkey. Upon arriving in the city, he encountered an ancient wagon, its yoke tied with what one Roman historian later described as “several knots all so tightly entangled that it was impossible to see how they were fastened.” Phrygian tradition held that the wagon had once belonged to Gordius, the father of the celebrated King Midas. An oracle had declared that any man who could unravel its elaborate knots was destined to become ruler of all of Asia.

According to the ancient chronicler Arrian, the impetuous Alexander was instantly “seized with an ardent desire” to untie the Gordian knot. After wrestling with it for a time and finding no success, he stepped back from the mass of gnarled ropes and proclaimed, “It makes no difference how they are loosed.” He then drew his sword and sliced the knot in half with a single stroke.

69/365: I've been busy making thank you cards for my son and his partner to send for all the gifts they've received on the birth of their baby. She loves giraffes and I had this rubber stamp with a mother and baby giraffe that was just perfect for this project. I've added 17 buttons to the layout as our little grandson is 17 days old today.

I will try to catch up with comments soon, life is pretty hectic still.

Happy Macro Monday! For September 1st 2014 - Closed

And a Happy Labor Day to all our American friends! ;o)

Looking for interesting macros of my small bonsai scissors ... this pose made me think of Freddy Mercury! I always thought of the Fandango as a Spanish flamenco dance ... and with the puffed sleeves .... well, I couldn't resist! The scissor blades are about 1" long - so it really is close-up! A shot of the full scissors is in the first comment field.

207/365: I went lavender picking the other day, at our local lavender farm. I can't think why when I have plenty in the garden but it's a nice thing to do.

I'm going to be away for a few days with no internet access. This means I will fall behind with posting and commenting. I'll catch up as soon as I can. Wishing you all a great weekend.

253/365: I found these berries while on my camera club outing yesterday so they came home with me for a photo. You never know, they may make another appearance.

I must apologise again for being so bad at commenting, life is just so busy right now.

Household scissors are not sharp enough to make clean cuts and often crushes the branches. Always use high-quality bonsai ✂️ to prune your bonsais🌿.
