Last week I went out to the Indonesian countryside with my local driver, and, to make the trip a bit more interesting, I brought some old mix tapes that I had compiled in the late 80s for us to enjoy in the car.
However, I was a bit worried, because there were a few wild grindcore and death metal tracks on each one of them. I was afraid that could be a bit too much for the sensitive feelings of a considerate and polite East Asian gentleman. The music may even impair his otherwise impeccable driving skills.
I was wrong again. He was particularly delighted to hear that music and told me he used to play in a grindcore band himself, years ago, in his hometown Bandung. Bandung, he assured me, is a mekka for gindcore and death metal with loads of bands, live venues and even specialised radio programmes.
This is Bolt Thrower's best recording.
The second best are the Peel Sessions.
