Waves wash over rocks at Boiler Bay near Depoe Bay, Oregon.

The Oregon coast has been getting "king" tides which are quite high this week. Added to the storms we've been getting the surf is dangerously high.

Not the normal view people get of this stretch of the coastline. This was taken from a tiny gavel pull-off shortly before the park.

...it can be so quiet you don't even hear yourself think. I like those places.

We had a great time on our trip to Oregon this summer. We saw so, so many whales here at the Boiler Bay Overlook here, but the sunset tired to steal the show!

The waves were impressive from a distance, but as they reached and you really feel the power.

I took a trip to the Oregon Coast for my "Places of Doom" project. I was there to get pictures of a little body of water called Dope Creek, which turned out to be nigh impossible. Boiler Bay almost qualifies as a Place of Doom because of the way it got its name. A ship ran aground and exploded in 1910, and all that remains is the boiler, which can be seen at very low tides. I did manage to photograph Dope Creek at a distance, and got some Lensbaby pictures of the "Devil's Punchbowl", which is on the list of Places of Doom, but the feature - a sea cave where the roof fell in - is not very picturesque. I hoped that the Lansbaby Edge 35 would bring it to life.

I'm mostly happy with the developement of this one, but there was a light leak in the lower left corner, which I cleaned up in Photoshop. I will have to test that film holder.

Happy Monochrome Monday! Taken at Boiler Bay Scenic Area on Oregon's Central Coast. This fellow photog was shooting the abnormally high waves caused by the recent storms.

I think I'll take a short break from the St. Johns Bridge, make a mental trip over to the coast. I can never get enough of the salty air, the chill wind, the dull roar, the Pacific storms.
