Smile on Saturday theme Copy-Collage

The famous Cecil Brewer's Staircase at Heal's Furniture Store in London, designed in 1916 and restored to it's former glory, with a bespoke Bocci Chandelier in 2013. Well worth a visit if you find yourself in London.

Copy-Collage looked like a lot of fun. I didn't have the appropriate software and it took me all afternoon but I'm glad I gave it a go and got there in the end! 😊

Happy Smile on Saturday! 😄

Going my hard drive this morning and found a fresh edit of the gorgeous spiral staircase at Heal's Department Store in London.

This staircase was designed by the architect Cecil Brewer and is quite possibly the most photographed staircase in London.

The staircase was completed in 1916 but was given a makeover in 2013 with a full restoration and the addition of this gorgeous Bocci chandelier that looks to me, like stars raining down from the ceiling.

Photographed on a Sunday afternoon exploration with NJ. Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel, Coal Harbour, Vancouver. January 15, 2017.

My second shot of the Cecil Brewer staircase in Heal's department store in London. Built in 1916 it's a stunning staircase and the Bocci Chandelier really gives it that touch of class.

I took so many shots of this to find a composition I was happy with, even a few steps to the left or right will give you an entirely different view. This was one composition I liked the best.

I've since been investigating other spiral staircases in London, a lot of them are easily accessible but there are a few which you can only get access to with special permission or on events such as the Open House event held each September. I'm going to make an effort to get to that next year as it seems like a great weekend.

Another photo of the beautiful Brewer Staircase in London, but this time looking down. Which one do you prefer?

I first discovered this staircase after seeing it on Flickr and knew I had to go get my own shot of it. I took several views, from the top and the bottom.

This shot is looking up from the bottom of the staircase with my camera rested on a table that's situated right in the middle, when looking down from the top the table reflects the wonderful chandelier back towards you.

I've given this shot a cooler white balance as it was fairly orange which I wasn't too keen on, I think the colder blue tones really give it a spacey look.

The title of the photo comes from the classic scifi book by Alfred Bester, I thought it fitted the shot as you can imagine climbing the stairs to the stars.

Now complete with comfy sofas and a wide-screen TV!

While having a wander around London on Saturday, I made another visit to Heal's Department Store on Tottenham Court Road to photograph their wonderful spiral staircase. This was my second visit, and I wanted to get something different from my previous two photos.

It's probably London's most photographed spiral staircase so it's always fun to try new compositions.

I spent quite a while trying out different compositions, looking down and looking up, but they've closed off the very bottom to the general public now so I had to ask a member of staff very nicely if it was ok for me to go down to photograph it. She was a bit reserved at first but soon agreed to escort me downstairs while I did what I needed to do.

I really love how the bulbs in this gorgeous chandelier look like stars falling from the sky, it really is stunning.

The Abbey of San Martino dei Bocci or Valserena, known as "the Certosa di Parma" in reference to the novel by Stendhal, is a Cistercian monastery whose foundation was authorized by Pope Boniface VIII in 1298 and entrusted to monks from the Abbey of Chiaravalle della Colomba (Piacenza).

It has now been the seat since 2007 of the Studies and Communication Archive Center of the University of Parma.

This is quite possibly London's most photographed staircase and I always try to pop in to get a shot of it when I'm in the city. I've posted various shots of this in the past but it's always nice to go back and try something new or just go for the classic shot which I have here.

A true jack of all trades, the Bocci BXI sees use in both the Dogal Marina and the Dogal Aeronautica as a torpedo bomber, dive bomber, tactical bomber, scout, and VIP transport.

It used to lead up to an art gallery (Mansard Gallery) housed in Heal's flagship building, and Heal's claim to fame was a ground-breaking exhibition of French Modern Art, when Matisse and Picasso were first shown to the British Public.

There were only very few customers wandering at the Store when I arrived. I was walking up and down the stairs and spent almost an hour taking many photos of this Century Old (..probably considered young in London:-) Spiral Staircase at Heal's Flagship Furniture Store, London

One rainy day, but Alma could not resist to release his bicycle, his Christmas present. (Dedicated to my father, who loves cycling)
