I awoke last night to the sound of thunder
How far off I sat and wondered
Started humming a song from 1962
Ain't it funny how the night moves
When you just don't seem to have as much to lose
Strange how the night moves
With autumn closing in
[ Bob Seger - Night Moves ]
Happy Sliders Sunday everybody!
And enjoy the autumn! ;-)
I have tried to meet up with the captain of this rust bucket several nights in a row, but as the trawler's name implies he's movin' at night. Wonder what songs he's hummin' from 1962.......
Enjoy!
Originally by Bob Seger but given a new angsty angle by James Hetfield and Metallica on their Garage Incorporated cover album (s).
A little convoluted maybe with a guitar pick and miniature JD’s but I had them around as my first attempt was ‘Whiskey in the Jar’.
But your thoughts will soon be wanderin'
The way they always do
When you're ridin' 16 hours
There's nothin' much to do
And you don't feel much like ridin'
You just wish the trip was through
Here I am, on the road again
There I am, up on the stage
There I go playin' the star again
There I go, turn the page
Later in the evenin'
As you lie awake in bed
With the echoes of the amplifiers
Ringin' in your head
You smoke the day's last cigarette
Rememberin' what she said
What she said
There’ll be times when I’ll rise
There’ll be times when I’ll fall
There’ll be times when its best to say nothing at all
Knowing you’re right
Letting it be
I’ll be around
If you’ll wait for me
Playing the oldies at the Silver Diner....
Just take those old records off the shelf.....
Hey Jude, don’t make it bad....
See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen.....
#31/52, Music, Seasons 2019, My diary
Seems like yesterday but it was long ago.
We were young and strong.
We were running against the wind.
Well those drifters days are past me now
I've got so much more to think about
Deadlines and commitments
What to leave in, what to leave out
Mainstreet
By Bob Seger
I remember standing on the corner at midnight
Trying to get my courage up
There was this long lovely dancer in a little club downtown
I loved to watch her do her stuff
Through the long lonely nights she filled my sleep
Her body softly swaying to that smoky beat
Down on Mainstreet
In the pool halls, the hustlers and the losers
I used to watch 'em through the glass
Well I'd stand outside at closing time
Just to watch her walk on past
Unlike all the other ladies, she looked so young and sweet
As she made her way alone down that empty street
Down on Mainstreet
And sometimes even now, when I'm feeling lonely and beat
I drift back in time and I find my feet
Down on Mainstreet
Down on Mainstreet
Processed with Luminar 3 (Film Noir) look and feel.
There's a hard moon risin' on the streets tonight
There's a reckless feeling in your heart
The fire inside ...Bob Seger

Speaking for artists; those of us on flickr as well as ALL artists, musicians, performers, athletes, etc I feel the lyrics in this Bob Seger song capsulate the frustrations, demands and pressures imposed on artists as their fans become overwhelming at times. Expecting or demanding more, more and more from the artist. Each new piece and performance has to be better, more spectacular – or else the artist or performer does not live up to “their” (the fans) expectations. It becomes exhausting and frankly depressing for the artist/performer. Never quite good enough……. These words in Bob Seger’s lyrics tell a story – a story of weariness and loneliness. Listen to music that none other than the great (but now old and fading into obscurity) Bob Seger sings as he grinds out this somewhat mournful story. He tells a story of which I can relate. Of which, I suspect many of us can relate. The music gradually fades, melting into the fields and hills and valleys until there is no more. No more sound. No more words - just a fading memory of what was. No more recognition – just a distant memory of what was and obscurity.
Frankly I doubt this artwork (which I spent hours and hours putting together) will receive no more than a passing glance………or worse yet, people will immediately be looking for something better, more entertaining from me. Well folks, I’m old and coming to the end of the line. I don’t know how much more……. or better is left in me.
BTW - How many of you know that Bob Seger was (is) a Michigan boy – raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Turn The Page
On a long and lonesome highway
East of Omaha
You can listen to the engine
Moanin' out his one note song
You can think about the woman
Or the girl you knew the night before
But your thoughts will soon be wandering
The way they always do
When you're ridin' sixteen hours
And there's nothin' much to do
And you don't feel much like ridin',
You just wish the trip was through
Here I am
On the road again
There I am
Up on the stage
Here I go
Playin' star again
There I go
Turn the page
Well you walk into a restaurant,
Strung out from the road
And you feel the eyes upon you
As you're shakin' off the cold
You pretend it doesn't bother you
But you just want to explode
Most times you can't hear 'em talk,
Other times you can
All the same old cliches,
"Is that a woman or a man?"
And you always seem outnumbered,
You don't dare make a stand
Here I am
On the road again
There I am
Up on the stage
Here I go
Playin' star again
There I go
Turn the page
Out there in the spotlight
You're a million miles away
Every ounce of energy
You try to give away
As the sweat pours out your body
Like the music that you play
Later in the evening
As you lie awake in bed
With the echoes from the amplifiers
Ringin' in your head
You smoke the day's last cigarette,
Rememberin' what she said
Here I am
On the road again
There I am
Up on the stage
Here I go
Playin' star again
There I go
Turn the page
Here I am
On the road again
There I am
Up on the stage
Here I go
Playin' star again
There I go
Turn the page
There I go
There I go

* Just for explanation sake, this artwork encompasses 57 different Photoshop Layers, 17 Channels (including the red, green, blue and the RGB composite channel and 13 paths in the Path layers. The composition incorporates 12 different digital photographic elements in composite. Being this was an “on again, off again” project, I would guess that I have about 60-70 hours work in this “thing”. Over the course of 2-3 weeks I turned on – turned off and dimmed, brightened so many lights, I cannot count. Oh, yes – the one light fixture on the Singlefinger Speed Shop is “off” on purpose……….. the light bulb burned out months ago and Elmer Singlefinger never got around to replacing it ;)
So anyway folks:
There I go
Turn the page
Here I am
On the road again
There I am
Up on the stage
Here I go
Playin' star again
There I go
Turn the page
There I go
There I go
………………….. hope ya’all enjoy.

I inherited all of my athletic abilities from my father. He was a star athlete in multiple sports when he was young (football, basketball, baseball, waterskiing, track) and later in life he transitioned into playing softball for a few teams. I can remember going to watch him when I was a tiny little thing and how thrilling I found sitting on the bench in the dugout with his teammates while I watched him play. He loaned me his glove in law school when I was playing for our school team in the law school softball tournament in Virginia. This glove has made a lot of tremendous catches (including a game-winning diving catch that shattered my dad's finger and sent him to the hospital). And it's perfectly worn. He keeps it on a shelf in his library now. A reminder of his glory days, I think.

March 2016 Arches National Park four night Milky Way night sky workshop is now full
In early March 2016, I will lead / host a four night Milky Way night sky workshop.
During that workshop I will take my group to Arches National Park, Professor Valley, Canyonlands, Monument Valley and down to Kayenta, AZ. After shooting the Milky Way, we'll shoot sunrise and many other sites in the best morning light.
I'm already thinking about that incredible drive from Moab, UT down to Monument Valley, AZ and on down to Kayenta. As we drive beyond The Mittens area in Monument Valley, we''ll see the ancient volcano Agathla Peak, just north of Kayenta.

Time to chill out to Anhid's song ... Where Joy Shall Reign.
Thanks for stopping by.
Looking around here these days there's nothing around but Winter's bleariness, so I dredged this little gem up from the archives... Taken this past Christmas day!!
Against the wind
I'm still running against the wind
I'm older now but still running against the wind
Well, I'm older now and still running
Against the wind...

It was a damn cold evening but the sunset was wonderful. While shooting the sunset I've had a song in my mind. An old song by Bob Seger. Does anyone remember Fire Lake
I'd like to Explore (#9) Kathmandu
Don't try to take me to a Disco
You'll never even get me out on the floor
In 10 minutes I'll be late for the door
I like that old time rock and roll

Who's gonna ride that chrome three wheeler
Who's gonna make that first mistake
Who wants to wear those gypsy leathers
All the way to Fire Lake...

While on a fishing trip to Collins Lake last week, we had to leave the park to get cell reception to make a phone call...and as we did so, we got hit with a tornado warning...
Thought those things didn't happen in sunny California?...
“One of the huge mistakes people make is that they try to force an interest on themselves. You don't choose your passions; your passions choose you.”
I am so glad this passion for capturing the beauty in this world chose me. The image used on the cover of this Rock and Roll legend's new album is mine!!! It was such a huge honor to work with the record company and Bob Seger on this project! Bob also browsed though my entire portfolio to hand pick more images that appear inside the album and CD booklet!
Being recognized in such huge ways this past year, has been quite humbling. It has provided me the drive and desire, to only work harder at this craft I love so much. It has pushed me to want to see more, learn more, do more and be the best I can possibly be. Thank you to all of you for supporting me along this portion of my journey. Wishing you all the best in 2015! Happy New Year!

Despite the appearance on your first glance, this is NOT an abandoned building, but rather the historic Michigan Theater Building. Opening in 1926 it was once one of the two most ornate theaters in the entire city. After it closed it became the Michigan Palace ( from 1972 to 1976 ) , where rock groups early in their careers played ( Kiss recorded part of Alive here, and Aerosmith, Rush, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, Thin Lizzy, REO Speedwagon, and a whole host of others played here on their early tours ) . This door is located near where the stage was - and may or may not have been en entrance used by the performers. It is currently a building filled with different businesses, and the former stage is now part of the most beautiful parking garages you will ever see.

Le rezan al dios del viento
"¡Alabado seas, mi señor!"
Rogando que sus soplidos
Se lleven todo lo malo
Lejos de sus vidas
Esperando que un torbellino
De buenos deseos
Les haga surcar las olas
Hacia el onírico e insonsable
Océano del misticismo
Mientras, nosotros nos tragamos
El humo de sus incendios
La arena de todos los desiertos
Caminando siempre contra el viento...
