Duyong Island, Malaysia. Just seven or eight years ago there were more than 30 boat builders on the island, now there are just three. The cost of materials has become prohibitive and only the wealthy can afford to have boats built these days.

Smile on Saturday ~ Rusty Beauty
One from the archives for this weeks theme. This boat was in dry dock awaiting renovation. There were layers of paint over the rust.
Thank you to everyone who pauses long enough to look at my photo. Any comments or Faves are very much appreciated.
The Balmaha Boatyard is owned by Macfarlane & Son Ltd. and a wide range of services are on offer at the yard, including moorings/marina services, ferries, cruises, mailboat trips and boat hire.
Balmaha Boatyard was established 150 years ago by Sandy Macfarlane's great grandfather, John Macfarlane, and is still very much a family business with traditional values.
For individuals or groups, there is a ferry service to the spectacular island of Inchcailleach (Inchcailloch), which has a fantastic nature trail as well as barbecue facilities and a beach!.
Macfarlanes have been running the mail service on the Loch since 1948. The mailboat delivers mail to the islands of Inchtavannich, Inchmurrin, Inchcruin and Inchfad. There is a one hour stop on Inchmurrin where bar lunches are available at Inchmurrin Hotel. Days and times vary.

Walked a little further up than I normally do here as the tide was in and some of the stranded old boats were afloat in the channel.
Defeated by the mud on this occasion so a hasty 5 shot pano.

Award Tree Challenge 159 ~ Famous Painters ~
Inspired by the artist J M W Turner.
Turner painted a lot of his pictures in Brighton; he wouldn't have seen the view from this photo I took as it's of the now derelict West Pier. In December 2002, the pier partially collapsed during a storm, when a walkway connecting the concert hall and pavilion fell into the sea. The following month, the concert hall in the middle of the pier fell over, leaving the entire structure close to total collapse. On 28 March 2003 the pavilion at the pierhead caught fire; this is all that remains of it.
Brancaster Staithe is roughly half-way between Hunstanton and Wells-next-the-Sea, and is a working fishing village set on the edge of the coastal marshes on the North Norfolk coast. It merges into the adjacent villages of Brancaster and Burnham Deepdale. Many local families still make their living by fishing from the staithe, which has always been famous for its first class shellfish. The village has a relatively large sheltered harbour popular with sailors, with a small boatyard and ship repair facilities (pictured) at its eastern end. Brancaster Staithe is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve is just a short distance away.
