The photo is from the Juneau Avenue Bridge looking toward the Highland Avenue pedestrian bridge. The brick building on the right is the Riverfront Plaza at 1110 North Old World 3rd Street, which houses restaurants, bars, and business offices. The tall building on the left is the Milwaukee Center Office Tower and the skyscraper beyond is the Faison Building. On the far left is the top of the Milwaukee City Hall. In the distant center is the Germania Building, built in 1896, with its copper pickelhaube domes.

Scotch Pond consists of a large, man-made, rectangular water body, originally a slough, and the remains of wooden boardwalk pilings which run along the south edge of the pond, both situated within Garry Point Park along the tidal flats of Sturgeon Bank in the Steveston area of Richmond.

Character defining elements of Scotch Pond include:

- The remains of the wooden pilings along the south edge of the Pond which originally supported the boardwalk connecting the Scottish Canadian Cannery to Steveston

- The Scotch Pond as it exists today, as a geometrically shaped water body connected to the Gulf of Georgia and including a small, rectangular wooden building and wooden boat docks

- The traditional use of this area for activities related to the fishing industry by the Scotch Pond Heritage Cooperative

- The setting which is comprised of the natural landscape of the Sturgeon Banks tidal flats and Garry Point

Uniquely situated among the tidal flats of Sturgeon Bank at the end of a long boardwalk, the Scottish-Canadian Cannery was built by Malcolm and Windsor in 1899, taking advantage of the slough access to the Gulf of Georgia. Housing for cannery workers was constructed on pilings over the water.

Located in South Lake Tahoe. This is a view of the Duplexes that can be rented. The resort is behind me.

While walking around and exploring the shoreline Grand Portage National Monument. The view extends to the waters of Grand Portage Bay (and Lake Superior beyond) with the namesake island in the image center. In composing this image, I chose to keep a more or less leveled-on view with the horizon and lake. I liked the balance with that and overcast skies above, as well as using the boarded walkway and dock to lead a viewer into the image.

On a side note, one can see the thin sliver of island very far off in the distance with Isle Royale and the national park there (above the dock area). Unfortunately because of weather over Lake Superior several days later, I was not able to visit that location. But in a few years!

117 Pictures in 2017 #114: Through the Looking Glass

I really struggled with this prompt. I kept thinking of Alice in Wonderland and I just couldn't put anything together for a photograph. When I started thinking of a looking glass as just a mirror, I decided I could go with a reflection of some sort and capture the spirit of the prompt...I hope...

We have four seasons in our life.

We enjoy the joy of new life in spring. We see the unlimited energy and most variety of colors in summer. We are going back to the basics and see elegance in winter.

However it is the autumn that we will celebrate harvest and we see the most saturated colors. It is fall we will see the most beautiful gold.

This is the autumn gold seen on Lake Minnewanka in the sunny afternoon.

This is part of my Canadian Rockies trip series. Please check the other ones and give me some comments.

Have a great week coming!

When I went out for my Monday Evening Walk, the Charles River in Boston was mostly ice. It was an interesting sight for such a large river to be icy, but it was also really cool

This shot was taken from the river walkway in front of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

A special thanks goes out to the ducks for not moving over the course of the 3 exposures

A red-tailed hawk greeted me for a few seconds and then left before I could get my camera equipment out. In the background, I could hear a mourning dove call and then all went quiet.

It was very tranquil in this cove.

One of the iconic things to do at Lake Louise is ride in a canoe. So of course I had to try it! I am happy to report that neither I or my camera got wet.

One thing I love about photographing Boston is that all the usual spots present unique opportunities as the seasons change. This image is a great example, with a warm up in winter the Charles River was all water and no ice. But, there was still snow encrusted boats at the MIT Sailing Pavilion. An incredibly unique combination that I took advantage of with great sunrise light. I only had one chance at this 7 min exposure with the following optical filters controlling light entering the lens.

Boat Masts somewhere in Britain

Tahoe City, California

A stop while on the ferry boat ride across Lake Chelan with a view looking to the north to Red Butte and other peaks of the South Methow Mountains. What I was attempting to capture in this setting was a number of different things. One was the crisscrossing of hillsides to the mountains off in the distance. Another was what I felt a color contrast between the deep blue color of Lake Chelan and the green, yellows and even some browns on the hillsides and mountains. While pulling back on the focal length might have included more of the surrounding hillsides and mountains and even added to an awe inspiring look for this image, I decided to zoom in and have only a focus on those two things that I noted for this image. I also liked how zooming in seemed to fill in more of the image, almost creating a sense of scale.

A setting looking to the south-southwest while taking in views along the shores of Cameron Lake. This is in Waterton Lakes National Park but the setting with the peaks and ridges are in the US in Glacier National Park. With this image, I decided on a leveled-on view with the horizon that attempted to balance the reflections with the mountains themselves.
