A Male Bluethroat. A real Bobby-dazzler of a bird.
Photographed in the Netherlands, back when foreign travel was a whole lot easier than it is now.
The Bluethroat, named & famed for it's beautiful bib colouring. It's easy, therefore, to overlook another of it's splendid attributes.
Here's a celebration of that glorious tail.

When it comes to showmanship, there aren't many song birds that can rival the beauty & splendour of a male Bluethroat. Fabulous little birds.

The Bluethroat is a stunning little bird to watch & photograph and this one certainly didn't disappoint.

Das Blaukehlchen habe ich heute an einem Polder in Bremen gesehen und gehört.
I saw and heard the bluethroat today at a polder in Bremen.
A shot taken during a trip to the Netherlands, a few years ago. The Male Bluethroat really is a stunning photographic subject, particularly during the breeding season, when they make themselves so much more conspicuous. Perched high on a reed-top, they sing out over the reed-bed & really are a glorious sight.
The light here was fabulous too, which always helps of course.
Enjoyed another fabulous weekend in Holland, watching & photographing the beautiful Bluethroat. Stunning little birds, both in looks & in voice.

Nachdem ich vor ein paar Tagen das Blaukehlchen entdeckte, ging ich wieder auf die Suche nach ihm und glücklicherweise kam der kleine Vogel wieder zu dieser Stelle.
A new day - new luck
After discovering the bluethroat a few days ago, I went looking for it again and luckily the little bird came back to this spot.

This shot was taken a couple of years ago & rediscovered while tidying some files recently.
A handsome Male Bluethroat, singing his heart out. Spectacular little birds, both in looks & voice.

In a world of vertical perches, this little reed bed specialist is certainly showing off his dexterity & agility here.
My set-up here was for shooting stationary birds, so any movement of the subject would prove quite challenging. I was lucky with this shot though.

A beautiful Bluethroat, photographed in Holland earlier this year. I was pleased to have caught this male with his tail fanned like this. He was flitting among the reed stems here, displaying & singing his claim on his chosen patch.
