View across the Blue Ridge mountains from a Parkway overlook. North Carolina USA

Traditional wool preparation spinning wheel and textiles. The Matthews settler cabin, Blue Ridge Mountains, Virginia USA

There are so many views along the Blue Ridge Parkway for photographers. It seems that you could stop every quarter of a mile for a different vantage point. This location is near Asheville, North Carolina. It was a very overcast rainy and cloudy day; so no exquisite sky but the mountain range doesn't change and nature always provides shapes and lines that astound me. Our stop at this beautiful Tanawha Bridge on our way to Rough Ridge. As you can see this is my favorite bridge in the mountains.

The fall semester is well underway at UVA but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on our local natural beauty. I think this young lady has found a good balance.

An early morning scene from the Rock Castle Gorge trail off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Floyd County VA

I think now that I’m in the autumn of my life, and I’m getting a chance to look back at my past, I hope I have made a difference in someone’s life, brought a smile to someone’s face, given of my time, leaned over to pick someone up, spoken words of comfort, and given of my heart until it hurt. For in life, these things are the most important….

Rainy and foggy but really worth it!

for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit. ~ Robert Louis Stevenson

View on my farm this morning, about 5-6 inches of snow fell.

Some parts of Virginia received over 12 inches.

The temperature the next morning is 11F (-11.6C).
