saw a tutorial somewhere: you just use a blowdryer on crayons and they melt and "run"... this is part of a bigger canvas painting.

Styling my newly colored hair, with a little magic from my fairy friends! No comment on how many takes this took...between failed hair flying, weird subject framing, and then having sore cheeks from all that smiling, it's no wonder my dog was scratching at the bathroom door, wondering what was taking me so long! I just realized the brand of the blower is perfectly hidden...sorry Conair, no free press for you! (oh wait, I just did)
I got the pixie brush here.
The Healthy Hair Lab™ Is the complete styling kit for healthy and smooth hair. While too much shampooing, styling, and drying will harm your hair. Heat and chemicals weaken the hair, causing it to break and fall out. Often, it’s a combination of treatments—keratin, coloring, and blow-drying, for instance—that does the damage. Healthy Hair Lab eliminates the damage from drying and straightening in three easy steps!

This was a tricky one to shoot. I didn't knw what the bathroom would look like before I got there, and it ended up being quite cluttered and with lots of mirrors. So not only did I have to shoot in a tiny bathroom, I had to set up the lights in a way that they wouldn't show up in the mirrors. 1 AB800 with beauty dish high and slightly camera left. AB800 with standard reflector pointed at the ceiling for fill.

I selected M100 but it is very small for my equipment.
So for this theme we were asked to do an ad for AEOoak hair products. I picked styling tools, however this wasn't my original idea. I did once have some doll sized straighteners that I wanted to use and they've all but disappeared.
I know it's a weird shape for an ad, but let's call it a billboard rather than magazine shall we? It was hard to conform to a portrait style shot when her hair was blowing all over the place, heh. I love how fresh Elise looks here, I actually used my Nikon 1 for a change and love how crisp it came out even with flash, no glare like my DSLR.
“Why do you use AE OOAK Hair Products?"
Elise: Being of African descent, my hair goes through a lot to get it looking sleek and straight so I need all the care I can get! AEOoak's new "Straight 'N Dry - Hairdryer & Styler" combo too works a treat! It has a brand new design that is a lot kinder to your hair than your typical everyday blowdryer, it even helps to straighten your hair as it dries which means less time using harmful flat irons!
6 weeks, 3 countries, 3 shirts, 3 pairs of underwear, 3 cameras
i'm off to thailand to crash the 3-month around-the-world honeymoon of ben and beth, traveling with them to cambodia, and then STEALING the bride and going to vietnam. if anyone has any tips for those places (besides the obvious touristy guidebook stuff), post below (especially tales of what to skip).
in the interest of packing light (which i am normally really, really bad at, and have always been of the "20 days? 20 shirts!" mentality), i'll be putting some travel gear to the test:
underwear: yes. i did it. i got exofficios. i have allllways made fun of them. but even if the antimicrobial coating is a fail, they are quick to wash and superquick to dry.
shirts:ultralight merino (yes, wool) from icebreaker, purchased as a result of this review
socks: smartwool (3 pairs)
toiletries: in gotoobs
camera gear: canon 5D mk11 with 16-25mm f/2.8 & 50mm f/1.4 lenses, canon powershot G9 w/ underwater housing, holga
i'll probably have sporadic internet access, so if you'd like to follow my adventures, i'll be posting when i can to twitter or the blog rather than flickr.
see you in 6 weeks!
There are days when I don't find anything to photograph and then...this. Always in the spot you'd least expect.
I found one of the woodshed phoebes on the driveway last night. I scooped it up and put it back in the nest. After dinner, I saw it (or a sibling) on the driveway again. After speaking with a licensed rehabber, we concluded the nest must be infected with mites so badly that the nestlings were pre-fledging; that is, they were hopping out rather than get eaten to death. Apparently it's a terrible year for nest mites, with the mild winter followed by a hot, humid summer.
I wouldn't recommend anyone try this, but I took the nest down and gave each nestling a warm, soapy bath and rubbing alcohol treatment, followed by a patting dry. (Next time I would use a blowdryer on low.) Hubby destroyed the nest by burning it - you shouldn't throw it in the woods where the mites can find another poor host. I didn't have a single natural basket in the house so I made do with this tupperware container and grass clippings. I worried they might be too cold and wet overnight, but they huddled together and I put kleenex around them for insulation.
Today the parents fed them normally, and tonight they look much better. I changed out the nest material one more time, and stole this picture before putting the nest back up in the woodshed.
Thank you also Maureen for your advice and support!
Teleidoscope 27/52: Levitation
blowdryer action rules!
Kind of Inspired. Again by Lissy Elle :)
Decided to do a 52 week project. Because a 365 seemed impossible :) So I joined the teleidoscope project. Although I'm like 20 weeks behind... Im guessing I'll work of this year and than do the first 20 weeks of the other year.
M 100 aka Blowdryer Galaxy was one of the first spiral galaxies to be discovered in 1781 by Pierre Méchain.
Also pictures are:
IC783A, a lenticular galaxy.
NGC 4312, an edge-on unbarred spiral galaxy
NGC 4328, a Elliptical/Spiral Galaxy
NGC 4322, a Elliptical Galaxy
There are a few more galaxies that are too small and dim to be seen.
One hour exposure taken with the Seestar S50 in my backyard.

Her hair is a special thermal saran which changes with heat. The easiest way to do this indoors is to use a blowdryer on her hair. In CA during the summer, I can just leave her out in the sun for about 30 seconds and her hair is immediately yellow. As soon as it is room temperature again, the hair turns back to orange.
Taking photos like this one here is like dynamite fishing, you always get a decent result. I would guess it is really hard to produce a really bad photo of an armchair and a birch tree chilling at the side of the road.
And no, they didn't ask me if I had a blowdryer to help them dry that soggy newspaper.

At an abandoned resort in the Poconos, this beauty shop remained frozen in the early 1980s. Boxes for curling irons and blowdryers remained unopened and the sign on the left proclaimed that manicures were $5.00, conditioner $1.00, and hair cuts $10.00.
So we had some coupons from Rewards R Us :D I got these three standard edition Crystalicious girlies ^_^ I'mma get the blowdryer ones (if they come to the US) later too though probably xP
Jasper in Stardoll Pretty N Love fashion.
Surprisingly, I didn't need the blowdryer to yank Jasper's head off (to remove those beads).
Yep, I'm a bit of a control freak. And a bit afraid of spontaniety in certain areas...
I don't know what I'd do without Photoshop (or more importantly, without Katherine, my superstar coiffeur)!!
Open issues:
- Will the shorter-hair make my butt look big?
- Is the cut too hipster-ish?
- Will the new 'do make my butt look big?
- Can the lousy wiring in my apartment handle a blowdryer being used regularly?
- Am I freakishly neurotic?
- Is my butt just plain big?
(NOTE: THIS IS A PHOTOSHOP MOCKUP, not an actual haircut!)
When I began the reroot earlier this week I wanted to make a short hair Punz. Like I've wanted to since the start.
What happens though each time? I reroot it and then I really like the longer hair. This one had hair all the way to her waist and I thought, so pretty...
But then I finished her face up, which was my fastest ever and I just LOVE her face, which might sound a bit odd saying it myself, but I'm saying it anyway, and I thought now you have another long hair Rapunzel.
Although the hair of my previous Punzie is gorgeous and there would be no way I would cut it, it's quite difficult to keep looking pretty, while I take her with me.
As soon as I get her out of my bag her hair is a mess and before I can take a picture I need to brush it and style it, which is nice when You have all the time in the world but that is not always the case ( especially not when you live in a country where good lighting outside is sparce, because of grey skies).
So I thought yes I'm going to cut it, it will be so much easier. ( the kind of thing I always think about my own hair but always chicken out. And mine can grow back)
So short was the plan. It would be logical to go for the short hair of the movie, but I kind of wanted it to look accurate.
Now you look at this picture and say hey Dutch girl that's not accurate at all. Her hair is longer especially in the front.
I wanted to cut it the way Flynn cuts it though and the way he cuts it, there is no way you will end up with shorter pieces in the front.
Well I cut it and ended up with this shoulderlength look and instantly thought, what have I done, the long hair was so pretty.
Styling it was a no no, I wanted the ends to curl a bit, but there was no way it would stay in between the straws. I tried with my fingers and a blowdryer it looked great for...about two minutes.
Another moment I could punch myself for cutting it.
But then I began playing with it a bit and I noticed I could make a ponytail, a small one but it looked cute. I could do a half up half down.
Besides brading it and buns I could do all my favourite hairstyles of my longer haired Punzies.
This picture was made straight out of the bag. Even with messy hair she looks cute.
That was the moment she became my fave and I went name searching. Punzie 3.0 wasn't really that great.
Rapunzel isn't helping. It means lettuce, I thought what am I going to do with that? But then I read it's from the Valerian plant family.
Et voila, Valerie Rider was born :)
haha. So this morning I woke up and said "I wanna do my hair pretty and wear makeup".
This is really unusual if you know me at all because I only wear makeup if I have to, like on the weekends, and my hair is back in a ponytail 95% of the time. So I take a shower and I am like...yeahhh, feelin good. And I pick my blow dryer up...hahaha...and the entire thing just falls apart in my hands..like..the wires are spilling out like guts and i am holding two plastic pieces in my hands. haha. So much for looking pretty today. I still did my make-up, but I thought the blowdryer thing is funny =)
Saw Twilight on Thanksgiving. I'm obsessed. And watched the Britney Spears documentary last night. I am obsessed with her, too.
K, that's it =) Have a better day than I am having with me and my wet hair! :)
I had so many ideas.... Just not the puff to do it... i wanted something simple, nothing flying around or weird poses and props...
So cos it was raining anyways i moved to the attic, with my blowdryer to do a shot, my doggie came to join me ands whallllaalalaaaaa this picture was born ;)
Easy and simple.... like that..... it could have bin more spectecular and all and such or being worried that you all could see how bad my wallpaper technics are, but...
Sometimes i like it simple ;))
Really, am I the first to make the spacegun-is-a-blowdryer-joke?
I can't be, right? I mean, it wasn't thát hard.

I made a JALKOW collection, last year, in sort of homage to John's photostream and his JOHN Collection: the concurrent of the JOHN Collection. 'Not expensive, yet not cheap!'
So, big credits go to John and his trust.
This year, I had another brainwave, with lots of chairs and tables, so here it is: the JALKOW collection 2.
