Different venue today due to The Virus

I have a strange habit of turning inanimate objects into personalities. Doctor does look very pleased with himself...

The blood comes from a capillary blood test.

Almost almost done! A-Negative it is!

Mum had to go to the phlebotomist for a blood test prior to her diabetic check next week. The appointment was for midday, which worked well - I had to wake Mum up at 9.45am, but we got there bang on time. The phlebotomist was very good, and managed to get blood first time, which doesn't usually happen! We were there and back in half an hour, so it's good to be at the Combe Down surgery and not over at Newbridge still.

I started using the ancestry.co.uk app today on my iPad, and it's very good - but rather addictive! I was busy with it for most of the afternoon, while Mum slept, and found out lots that I didn't know. It goes hand in hand with the old photos which I am photographing and scanning at the moment, and which I will start to upload shortly.

The lady blew out the first vein and then managed to bruise the other one too, with a thinner needle!

A quote from Tony Hancock's The Blood Donor (part one); part two here and part three here.

I think this moment right here was me on the cusp of passing out. She had put a wet rag on my head, and opened the door/fanned me with it. What a fag.

I was Flickr surfing with a friend late last night when the crash startled us. Boots on, out the door, both of us rather hoping we didn't have to use our first aid training. A couple of blocks away, this is the view we first saw* before discovering that nobody, in fact, seemed to be hurt at all.

It seems the silver car in the background crossed to the wrong side of the road as it turned the bend, smashed directly into the (empty) parked white car - pushing it back more than a car-length - before somehow travelling past it to shunt another two (empty) parked cars behind.

The driver walked away from his car, but was taken away in an ambulance as a precaution after he complained of chest pain (probably seatbelt bruising). I suspect he may have been taken to the hospital for a blood test regardless.

Very lucky nobody was coming the other way.

A simple PSA blood test measures the level of Prostate Specific Antigen, a protein found in the prostate secreted mainly in the blood. Elevated PSA levels may indicate prostate cancer, a noncancerous condition such as prostatitis, or an enlarged prostate.

The American Urological Association recommends that men ages 55 to 69 who are considering screening should talk with their doctors about the risks and benefits of testing and proceed based on their personal values and preferences. The group also adds:

PSA screening in men under age 40 is not recommended.

Routine screening in men between ages 40 and 54 at average risk is not recommended.

To reduce the harms of screening, a routine screening interval of two years or more may be preferred over annual screening in those men who have decided on screening after a discussion with their doctor. As compared to annual screening, it is expected that screening intervals of two years preserve the majority of the benefits and reduce over diagnosis and false positives.

Routine PSA screening is not recommended in men over age 70 or any man with less than a 10-15 year life expectancy. Have you gotten your PSA blood test?

I'm at Crawley Hospital for another routine blood test – hey ho 😳

"Less Pain Than A Final!"

Hey, it was only 5 vials of blood this time - instead of 6 or 7! I'll take it!

Just ruling out anything majorly bad regarding my swollen kidney area. Anything to keep me out of the hospital is a win!
