'REFLECTION', the blockhouse-mirror, Anonyme, artist.
The battery of Zuydcoote, is a work of the system Séré de Rivières, built from 1877 to 1878, in annex of the fort of the Dunes. It is thus called because it is responsible for defending the pass of Zuydcoote.
Located on the town of Leffrinckoucke 5 km east of Dunkirk, the Zuydcoote’s battery was integrated into the Maginot line, then was completed by blockhouses of the Atlantic Wall.

The history of this beach is that of Operation Dynamo, launched by Churchill in 1940, which organizes the repatriation by sea of Allied soldiers trapped by the army of Nazi Germany. It is that of the almost complete destruction (80%) of Dunkirk by fighting and bombing. It is that of its inhabitants who had to desert their homes to escape the war and hope to survive.
