This morning started out with a trip to the market with Shelly, Jeff, Mum and !. To say we stuck out like a sore thumb would be a colossal understatement. We stuck out like a thumb that had been severed and strapped to a live grenade. The benefit of this great uncomfortableness that I felt was that i couldn’t get any more conspicuous, so I felt at ease taking photos. What are they gonna do? Stare more? Not possible. Boy we had fun at the market! Mum and Shelly bought wacky things that looked interesting while I documented the process and Jeff dutifully became a pack horse. We bought coconuts and watermelon and clams whilst blithely ignoring the logistical challenge of the impending half hour walk back up the hill. In the end each person took responsibility for the item they were most enthusiastic about buying. I love watermelon! The market was the peak of my day because mid morning it crumbled like conglomerate rock.

Do you know the only thing worse than the furious pain of unexpectedly shedding your uterine wall? Doing it in 30 degree heat and 70% humidity, a twenty minute walk away from a toilet. Words cannot describe the level of gross that I felt. I attempted to hightail it (as quickly as a person with moderately terrible cramps can) out of there, but on account of being a young white girl, jeff chaperoned me back. He is a top guy but also a reasonably conservative Christian middle aged man, and as much as I usually like to make them squirm, jeff was doing me a favour so I was deliberately vague when he asked whats wrong so I wouldn’t make him squirm. You readers have no such luck eh? If its any consolation I do actually hold back occasionally. Its amazing what a shower and a 3 hour nap can do for pain. Devastatingly, when my cramps subsided it was replaced by nausea. Woo. Hoo. I distracted myself by befriending a local expat and an islander. They showed me how to break open a coconut and then the local used a brilliant doovalackie to shred it. I tell you, swinging in a hammock overlooking the ocean whilst eating fresh coconut far outweighs the unpleasantness of my rebellious body. Dinner was clams, green fern mush, beans and rice. I forwent the clams with the excuse of an upset tummy (upset or not I wasn’t keen, but I may have at least tried one if I didn’t feel sick.) Regardless of its surprisingly good taste, dinner took me on a turn for the worse so now I am lying here regaling you with a story whilst being as still as possible, lest I have to vomit into the dry bag next to me.

I succumbed to the nausea and decided to have a reunion with dinner. Thankfully by dry bag was unscathed but me and the toilet bowl became well acquainted.
