" It's so hard letting go
I'm finally at peace, but it feels wrong
Slow I'm getting up
My hands and feet are weaker than before
And you are folded on the bed
Where I rest my head
There's nothing I can see
Darkness becomes me "

And I said, ooh, I'm blinded by the lights
No, I can't sleep until I feel your touch
I said, ooh, I'm drowning in the night
Oh, when I'm like this, you're the one I trust
the second aspect I want to say farewell to is Icelandic weather and light moods which are magical for photographers like here over Vatnajokull glacier massif.

The wooden structure is a wildlife observation "blind" accessed by the unpaved two-track at Merritt Island NWR, Florida. Most people remain in their cars on the "paved" Black Point Nature Drive, but venturing on walking trails like this one will give a less crowded look.

The combination of this Long Hoverfly and Pink-Sorrel brought to mind the plight of Marie Jules César Lélorgne de Savigny (1777-1851). An intrepid naturalist he was with Napoleon during the French Egyptian adventure; moreover, he was a fine descriptor of his finds. But then bad fortune struck; in the process of describing his specimens he slowly and painfully went blind. Regardless he soldiered on.
He described this Oxalis in 1797 before that great misfortune. It had been found by that great naturalist Philibert Commerçon (1727-1773) who was part of the scientific crew of Louis Antoine de Bougainville (1729-1811), the first Frenchman to circumnavigate the globe (www.flickr.com/photos/87453322@N00/2408098566/in/photolis...).
Commerçon collected this Oxalis in the fields around Montevideo (called Monte-Bido in Savigny's description), today the capital of Uruguay.

You'll see it soon enough.
A few of my favorite things all in one photo. Flare, a burst and bokeh! I borrowed my friends Helios back in June, right around the time I got my Rikenon 55mm 1.4 and I literally only shot one shot(this one) with the Helios before I gave it back because I was so mesmerized with my new lens. I have the Helios back again but im still very much mesmerized by my Rikenon :)

I've always been fascinated by the visceral sensation on approach to blind hilltops. It's an offshoot of my attraction to boundary lines. But in this case it adds a layer of uncertainty as to what lies on the other side. Even in cases such as this rural road where I know full well what's on the other side, I still feel that emotional tug. As a child I approached scenes like this with a sense of trepidation. I had an irrational fear at times that there would be a great chasm beyond a blind hilltop. Or a storm-churned ocean, seething with massive waves. Those concepts were scary enough, but greatly magnified by the thought that the unknown thing would suddenly engulf me were I to poke my head over the top. Sort of like a jack-in-the-box...the sudden pop-up was actually scarier than the thing itself. I left most of that anxiety back in childhood. Yet here I am now, decades later, still feeling the pull of blind hilltops. Just can't let some things go (or maybe they can't let go of me). The exhilaration these days seems centered on the approach phase rather than the crossover. I'm comfortable right on the edge.
