This is a diagram I developed for the paper I am giving at the VET E-portfolios Showcase Symposium 2009 - learning for life, in Melbourne (http://www.flexiblelearning.net.au/content/e-portfolios-showcase). I developed it to capture and illustrate the following notions:
* Developmental/showcase/professional
* Private/public space
* Trust/rapport
* Rehearse as a group as well as an individual
* Collection of 'projects' - some half-finished, some ready for the next production, some still in the concept phase, some abandoned
* Spend time as an apprentice, sweeping, painting scenery, learning the vocabulary
* Start to rehearse. Feedback from director/peers (work collaboratively to interpret a script)
* Personality - interpretation of the script (role/assessment/rubric)
* Audience - who are they? Appropriacy. Don't always know (global)
* Dress rehearsal/first night - iterative feedback loop
Think differently, make mistakes, invent. Give choice and agency to your learners. Make it accessible.
This AKF supported studio allows teachers to record lessons or learning courses for use by distance learning students, resulting in many more students having access to learning opportunities.
Students were asked to express matters important to them using clay, issues concerning deforestation, gender imbalance and extinction were explored in the first of this weeks short burst taster sessions in a variety of different techniques demonstrated during skills week.
It is *possible* that this is a blended learning class. The instructor is working a problem and projecting his process on-screen via a document camera. This *could* be part of the content presentation for a blended course, or it *could* be a response to a f2f question concerning an online assignment. The students seated with their notebook computers *might* be reviewing online course content corresponding with the instructor's presentation, or they *might* be taking notes. We really can't tell definitively from this photo alone whether this is a blended learning course. We would have to obtain more information from the instructor and students.

Blended learning certainly *could* happen here. Note the digital projector which, if Internet access is available, the instructor can use to display content from the online portion of the course (e.g., assignment instructions, an exemplary discussion posting, one of the readings from a web source, etc.). Also note the student computers which students can use, if Internet connected, to interact with the components being displayed by the instructor.
Whether blended learning *does* happen here depends upon the design of the course and the actions of the instructor and students.
