This Sunday March 1 begins the meteorological spring. Although the beginning may vary each year, it is usually applied for the first day of March, usually coinciding with mild temperatures, more common since the beginning of March than coinciding with the beginning of the astronomical spring.

As it runs through Blanco State Park. The river goes for 87 miles. It's shallow because it flows over an ancient lime seabed. The beauty of that is show in the clarity and color of the water

The fund raiser I went to a couple of weeks back was right next to this river. I couldn't find anything else to take a picture of so I jumped from high spot to high spot so I could get as far out as possible.

As for what kind of bug that was, I still don't know. I did several Internet searches and found a few close to it but not close enough. The other thing I discovered is, most insect pictures are out of focus..:) Or, maybe I'm just too picky

..HSS!!

I need to go find more material for SS shots. Not every shot works well for Slider Sunday. Anyway, it's Memorial day weekend here. My company is actually closed this Sunday. I was amazed. I didn't think they ever closed. Not sure what I'll do with my day off, but I'm sure I'll find something..;)

Business has been slow, so I didn't have to work today. I took a drive to the hill country looking for something to photograph. I got a few I liked and than the sun was just too bright and everything starting looking ugly..:)

Early in the morning on May 24, during the 2015 Texas–Oklahoma floods, the Blanco River experienced catastrophic flooding. The river at Wimberley rose more than 30 feet in less than three hours, and set a new record high crest of more than 40 feet while disabling the gauge.

Rainfall totals of 10 to 13 inches were reported upstream in southern Blanco County, and all of this water entered the Blanco River and Little Blanco River. The Fischer Store Rd. bridge over the Blanco River was destroyed by flood waters west of Wimberley. The Blanco River, down stream from the bridge, at Wimberley reached a record crest. The gauge failed at 40 feet and the USGS later estimated the crest at 44.9 feet with peak flow of 175,000 cubic feet per second (5,000 m3/s). This height was more than 10 feet over the previous record height of 33.3 feet from 1929. Homes along the banks of the Blanco River from the City of Blanco, through Wimberley, and down to San Marcos experienced an historic flood. Many homes were totally destroyed and swept down stream. Many homes were struck by large debris, including full size cypress trees which typically lined the banks of the river.

Regalaste flores.

FROM WIKIPEDIA:

Cape Blanco was named in 1603 by the Spanish explorer Martin D'Aguilar because of the chalky appearance of the headland.

The park land was purchased from the Joseph N. Hughes Estate in 1971. At the westernmost tip of the cape is a U. S. Coast Guard lighthouse reservation including an 1870 lighthouse. The headland is 245 feet above the sea and the light is visible for 22 miles at sea.

Because of many past shipwrecks at this point, a powerful radio beacon for navigators was placed at Cape Blanco.
