I painted the arms of Dollshe Saint in october 2012, but only 1 month ago I ended all the body
And still have no time to shoot all tattoos on the all body=/
Hope to do it in nearest time^___^'
Done in blackwork manner, but in a grey-blue colour.
My completed Edward Gorey-themed stitch-a-long! This piece is dedicated to the many episodes of 'Doctor Who', 'The Prisoner' and 'Sherlock' I watched while working on it - thank you thank you thank you, Toronto Public Library!
Tattoo by Denise de la Cerda. Wearer- Mark Ciecko (continued). As the pattern moves onto Mark's pectoral, it becomes more Victorian, design elements having been snatched from leaves, buds, and flowers. Hand of Glory Tattoo, Brooklyn, 2006.
Not really my scene, but part of the challenge!

Tattoo by Denise de la Cerda. Wearer- Mark Ciecko. This black and grey swirl is meant to flow gracefully with the form of Marc's arm and chest, and be non-objective while also not being abstract. Auricular patterns were used in the seventeenth century to decorate fine art objects. The shapes were taken from the shapes of the tiny bones inside the head, used for hearing. Thus the term "Auricular".

Well, mostly. There is also a border (I'll do it all at the same time, once the other side is done) and there are a few spots of colorwork. I'm not thrilled with the included colors - the red is too tomato, the green is too dark, the yellow is atrocious, something is wrong with the blue. So I'll be picking out new colors for that portion (same colors, different hues) but I've got time. Excited to be (finally) working on the other side.
I'm still super enjoying this project and very much looking forward to having the completed object hanging on the wall.
blackwork piece 7"x10" hand embroidered
For the Halloween opening at Redux
Opens Oct. 1st.
(Design is based on The Ossuary by Matthäus Merian. Variations of the original design were done by too many artists to list here, but arguably the most recognizable versions came from Emmanuel Büchel, Hans Holbien, Jacques-Antony Chovin, and Hieronymus Hess.)
I've finally finished the present for my mother. It's taken forever and that whole journey has been blogged about here.
Blackwork decorative detail on the verandah posts of a house, from the Art Deco era (I think), in Gordon, New South Wales.
Simple and elegant. And eye-catching.

I have always had a fascination with tattoo sleeves and in particular blackwork designs. I have a background in electronics and design so this is the design we came up with. This is also my first tattoo which was rather daunting to begin with.

Another update on my inner solar system blackwork. Finished all the orbits, onto the outer rays. Then done!
Jack, you are so lucky this shirt is way too big for me.
So, a Dürer-esque portrait, to show how the shirt has come along. Have redone the insertion stitch seams, and done most of the shirt's outlining. All that's left is to finish the outlining and work the interlace on the insertion stitch seams.
Happy to post this finished product. love love love it.

In the Snare! episode of You Look Nice Today, this discussion took place:
"Yoga is a myth."
"You mean a myth like the clitoris or a myth like Sisyphus?"
"Both. It's Greek and it doesn't exist."
"It's a Clitorisyphus."

Started working on this again recently. The original layout I'd planned isn't possible (when I measured, I didn't take into account that the fabric is cut a little off grain, and it won't all fit with enough room left around the edges) but I've regrouped and started working at it again. This third section might be the last one, but I might do some going in the opposite direction above these ones.
