Embroidery combining blackwork, hardanger and additional hand-embroidery. I've never seen these techniques combined in such a way before and so had to draw up an idea...
I'm considering embroidering a 'garden' on a separate piece and inserting it so it can be seen through the 'gate'.

I love how this came out! I usually take the lower border so it doesn't run into Ys and things but I wanted to keep this narrow and I like how it turned out.
I especially like this mix of colors. The pinkish orange in the flowers helps the other colors pop but doesn't take away from the text.

I'm still putting together ideas for the new stuff I want to start on, so for something to stitch in the meantime I took MrXStitch's suggestion and did a redwork version of my first Dr. Horrible stitch. I left the stuff that was on the sides off so it can fit in a 4 by 6 frame, but now I'm thinking maybe I should add it.
St. David is the patron saint of Wales, and his saint day- March 1st- is celebrated as the national day. The Welsh wear a pin- either a leek or a daffodil- as a symbol of their national pride on the occasion. I was lucky to be in Wales during a St. David's Day long ago, and saved my daffodil pin in memory.
