I did this blackwork piece in honor of my noble ancestors, the Clan Lindsay of Scotland. This was one of their mottoes (the other was something dozy about enduring bravely) which means "While I breathe, I hope."

The front of the shirt! The design of the strips is my own attempt to be original, but I definately tried to make it look as if it were period. It consists of 4 alternating motifs: a threaded needle (my heraldry), a coffee bush flower, a coffee bush berry+leaves combo, and a stylized ermine in the shape of a flower (both of us have ermine in our heraldry).

About 10x4 inches

Finished: March 2011

My blackwork that I started ages ago - and as I posted a picture when I started I can see just how long it took me! About 2 years as I'm not sure how long it had been when I took the first pic.

Many thanks to Tam's Creations for the pattern: www.tamscreations.com/Pages/Freebies.aspx
