Adapted from a longstitch design in "Martin Lehrman's needlepoint cats". Pattern darning in variegated silk (about perle #12 in thickness), with blackwork border. The bold stripes and speckling show on top of the fabric, while the thread on the underside suggests the body shape in shadow form. I count it as blackwork, because pattern darning is a part of blackwork, historically. In fact it was my major piece when I did my Intermediate Blackwork course.

;) Was a joy to stitch this model, I plan to stitch it again for myself in different colors, and D insists I am stitching one for him too!
This is a 8x8 inches large Organic Cotton Sateen swatch of my 'Elizabethan Blackwork with Goldwork and Pearls' fabric design, which, as wallpaper and fabric, is available at Spoonflower.
I also have some products featuring this design at my Zazzle Store!
If you look at the largest possible size you'll see how the mock embroidery (which is really just printed on the fabric, not real embroidery!) looks very realistic.
A during photo of the little black dresses. I am enjoying stitching these as they come on quickly and look really good I cant wait until they are framed and on the wall.

Showing the stitches that connect the different pieces of the shirt together. This is the hip, where the shirt opens to allow a bit freer movement.

I love A.A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh. If you do, too, and are very familiar with Pooh quotes, this one will not be familiar to you. That's because it is a Pooh quote, but it appears in The Tao of Pooh by Benjamin Hoff.
This scene of Pooh and Piglet does not appear in any Milne or Hoff books, but it is one that is a line drawing seen a lot online if one googles "pooh quotes." I turned that line drawing into a cross stitch picture and added the blackwork butterfly, snail, flowers and text.
Great for beginners or the more experienced stitcher - this stunning design uses blackwork in wonderful monochrome shades. Look for the chart in the new-look, bumper celebratory issue 200, The World of Cross Stitching
