A hint or a promise that Springtime should be just around the corner. However, during the following days the White of this blossom was replaced with the White of snow as an Artic blast swept down across the UK.

So lovely to see the blackthorn blossom appearing along the hedgerows and in the woods :)

Many thanks for all the kind comments and faves on my images.

Happy Easter everyone!

Each time I find the caterpillar of the Pale Tussock moth the hairs are a different colour to the last one! For comparison, just take a look at the previous two photos I posted recently.

The body is generally greenish-yellow or even bright yellow, with black hairs and tufts of bristles on the fourth to seventh segments, each separated by a black ring. These rings are more visible as the larva curls or arches. This slow-growing caterpillar should pupate by late September or early October and overwinter in a silken cocoon spun among Blackthorn leaf litter.

Thanks for your visit… Any comment you make on my photograph is greatly appreciated and encouraging! But please do not use this image without permission.

Melting frost on Blackthorn Berry.

It felt today that spring had truly arrived. This was one of a decent number of butterflies nectaring on the abundance of Blackthorn flowers at Blackburn Meadows Nature Reserve, Rotherham.

The white blob is one of my dogs on the path - HMBT!

Due to the very mild weather this patch of Blackthorn has come into bloom a few weeks early this year. Not many bees or insects about yet to pollinate the flowers so I suspect there wont be much fruit to be had later in the year on this bush.
