This black swan has been hanging out at the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge for several weeks. Had to go out there to see this lifer!

I grew up around water birds, lived in a town named for Swans, and have seen countless clutches raised.

However, this is the first time I'd ever seen the young riding high on the adult’s back.

It's not often I come across Black Swans, I'm glad I did

I was able to get relatively close to this Black Swan yesterday.

Its nest is ready for its next next family.

First I heard, then I saw and finally I pressed the shutter button - only this one shot filled the frame as this Black Powerhouse disappared behind the reeds.

Australian Black Swan, with a few Mute Swans. The Black swans are an invasive bird, brought to UK zoos and private collections, some escaped and others were allowed to go free. They are not encouraged to breed.

I like the heart shape they are making.

It has been a couple of weeks since our last visit. It is good to see that the swans are rearing two cygnets.

Surprisingly they had relocated their nest by about 30 metres and there was no sign of the old nest.

They had created a ring around their nest, maybe using it for building materials or to create a buffer space.

This bird wanted to catch up to its family and rather than swim hard, or fly, it chose to run along the water with giant steps

My first walk within the 10 km lockdown radius. It's winter and it's cold. The Black Swans couldn't care less, I had to process this image in monochrome to avoid overheating.

Usually swans live in pairs, not parting all year round. But this swan on Serpentine Lake in Hyde Park is alone.

These rocks would not normally be exposed out of the water except for a low low tide.

I rather like the motif of the Swans peeking over the fence as they swam past

Among the birds on a pond in Duesseldorf I was fascinated by this black beauty . Swans feed by dabbling (not diving) in shallows for aquatic plants. Swimming or standing, the mute (C. olor) and black (C. atratus) swans often tuck one foot over the back. Male swans, called cobs, and females, called pens, look alike.

The Black Swans took over most of the Braeside wetlands. The frosty morning air is filled with their songs and there is drama and ballet scenes too.

This young Swan was keeping its head out of the strong cold wind and soaking up the warmth of the sunshine.

Its rich doona of feathers no doubt helping make for pleasant dreams.

Just as we rounded the corner we saw beautiful Cameron Inlet and hundreds of black swans, I have never seen so many all together, this photo certainly doesn't do the vision justice!
