Photographed on a a large log lying on the forest floor in the rainforest of Finch Hatton Gorge, this series of fungi was a small section of a massive group on several fallen logs.

A couple of days later, we saw a blackpen on cartridge paper drawing of an array of this species of fungi, hanging in a gallery. It was a remarkable gallery, with a diversity of artwork. As we explored the gallery, we both kept coming back to the drawing. The artist was Harvey Stone, a local man from the Pioneer Valley. His meticulous, painstaking detail was amazing, and the overall impact on the viewer was magnetic!

For Macro Monday's theme: "Imagination"

Rachel's paintbrushes have always fascinated me. The imagination that flowed from her mind and out through the bristles an enigma to me. I've always felt that her paintings were a path to her mind ... to her imagination.

This is an image I shot last year of one of her paintbrushes which I've never uploaded. When I saw the theme for Macro Monday, I knew that I wanted to use this image. This image was taken before she realized that what she imagined didn't translate to art school in the way she envisioned. Her career path has since changed but she still has the artistic ability and imagination that will never leave her. This will make you laugh but she has designed a few tattoos for her sailor buds!!

I am posting this a bit early as i will be out of town for a week. I really wanted to post for this theme as imagination is a huge in our family. I may have some computer time while on the road and may take a peek now and then but for the most part I'll be offline. I hope everyone has an awesome week!!

Happy Macro Monday!!

Year of the fairy tale / A class on illustration by Carla Sonheim / third tale / The Princess and the Pea.

Assignment meant to take us back to painting like child. To take a way all ideas that the painting is precious : jot down the composition using crayons, spread color with a credit card; spread gesso, et cetera. Then try and make something out of it.

I LOVE this method.

i traced a zentangle tile into my sketch book and i hadn't finished it before moving on. but today i purchased a small field study watercolour kit (koi water colors pocket field sketch box by sakura) on clearance at joann. and to try it out, i just kinda went for it. and i LOVE IT. i mean, not this so much it is kind of weird and wacky but the effect. i've always been so partial to watercolour. so. happy addition to my creative outlet arsenal!
