♫ Tab Benoit - Darkness ♫

I'm walkin' slow

Oh, with a weary mind

She's draggin' me low

I'm fallin' behind

You got me where you want me

Still I keep on tryin'

Tryin' to see through the darkness

Between you and I

Sometimes it gets hard to find

Any love of any kind

Lord, turn on the love lights

Before I go blind

And pick me up off the ground

Let's let our hearts shine

Shine our way through the darkness

Between you and I

Hey, now

You know I love you

Oh, but I did you wrong

And we both made our choices

But it's time to move on

So please, please forgive me

And let's walk side by side

And fill in this darkness

Between you and I

We returned with the light of the evening

The trees will burn with blackened hands

Nowhere to rest, no where to land

The blackened palms are due to 2houses that burned to the ground last winter while I was here. I took photos of that too.

Amazing that they are still alive!

Once again found in Swineholes Wood, Ipstones.

Showing fire history of the tree and it's possible future, with a green shoot growing through the litter collecting in the trunk. I always enjoyed the study of succession.

The Old Town of Edinburgh, Scotland, consisted originally of the main street, now known as the Royal Mile, and the small alleyways and courtyards that led off it to the north and south. These were usually named after a memorable occupant of one of the apartments reached by the common entrance, or a trade plied by one or more residents. Generically such an alleyway is termed a close /ˈkloʊs/, a Scots term for alleyway, although it may be individually named close, entry, court, or wynd. A close is private property, hence gated and closed to the public, whereas a wynd is an open thoroughfare, usually wide enough for a horse and cart [citation needed]. Most slope steeply down from the Royal Mile creating the impression of a herring-bone pattern formed by the main street and side streets when viewed on a map. Many have steps and long flights of stairs.

Along the length of the Royal Mile were, at one time, around 250 of these separately named 'closes', 'wynds' and 'courts', the narrow streets where Edinburgh's residents were crammed into tight lanes and towering tenements

CLOSES

The majority of the lanes which run off the Royal Mile are closes, and the name was a reference to the original structure or style of the passages — even today many of them are just three or four feet (approx. 1 metre) wide, with the buildings on either side standing in ‘close’ proximity to each other.

Most of the closes of Edinburgh today are no longer dead ends, though some still have gates preventing access or come to an abrupt stop requiring a return to the Royal Mile.

These lanes were often named after the businesses based along them, or significant or high status residents who had houses there. So Lady Stair’s Close — home to the Writers’ Museum — was named for Lady Stair (in whose house the museum is today), Bakehouse Close was a bakery district.

Advocate’s Close gets its name from local resident James Stewart, who was Lord Advocate of Scotland during the Stuart Era.

It's a favourite place for a photograph; crouch down at the marker on the pavement, and the close frames the blackened Scott - as in Sir Walter Scott - Monument on Princes Street - the "gothic rocket ship" as the travel writer Bill Bryson called it. Built in the 1840s, it features a marble statue of Scott at its heart and carvings of over 60 writers, historical figures and characters from Scott's novels.

Happy Wall Wednesday!

Quite a challenge to find one not on the deck and past its best.

It was the first time I have seen this Hygrocybe species. I had probably overlooked it because the black cap makes it hard to see. Finding orange gills with a black edge and orange stems under the black cap was a nice surprise.
